Paired with rumors that thousands of copies had been lost, the hype train for this book was at breakneck speed. It's still moving significantly on the aftermarket, but the hype has settled. We tracked it at a high sale of $42 for a raw copy and a current NM FMV of $36. #4: SECRET WARS #5 – ALEX ROSS – REGULAR | MARVEL | 2015: From the moment it flashed across the screen in the Deadpool 3 trailer during the Superbowl, this book went bananas. Still, it's been rising in value despite the community not knowing exactly what Marvel meant when they included it in the trailer. This book and cover feature the first appearance of Weapon VIII (8), an alternate-reality version of Spider-Man. Everything about the cover, from the color scheme to the goggles to even the 'Weapon VIII,' screams X-Men. Specifically, the 90s version returning soon. We tracked it at a high sale of $22 for a raw copy and a current raw NM FMV of $17. #1: ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN #2 – MARCO CHECCHETTO – REGULAR | MARVEL | 2024: So far, the love for the new Ultimate Universe has been incredible. While it would be hard to match issue #1, issue #2 is trying its damnedest. It bears the distinction of being the first full in-story appearance of our new Spider-Man and the Shocker. With the positive reception of the Disney+ series What If?, there could be a time when we see the debut of the villainous James in the MCU. On the smallest chance that that occurs, fans have already been scooping up his first appearance! His character was first created for the X-Men Animated Series, killed off in the first episode, and brought back to life by Mr. Sinister. And this book was not an open-order book. Instead, it was a surprise variant that Marvel sent to comic shops. Local comic shops received 1-3 copies of the variant to sell to customers, making it much harder to find in the wild! We tracked it at a high sale of $240 for a CGC 9.8 copy and a current raw NM FMV of $125. #1: ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN #2 – MARCO CHECCHETTO – REGULAR | MARVEL | 2024: While the value of ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN #1 is soaring to the moon, fans are picking up the rest of the series. While the first issue doesn't show signs of dropping in value, this second issue is much more attainable. It is a fair value and it is still a key book. The book features the full in-story appearance of Earth-6160 Spider-Man and Shocker. This book is pulling its weight by taking the number one spot without relying on any MCU news; just damn good storytelling! What Peach Momoko is crafting is worth paying attention to, as it's different than what most collectors are used to from Marvel and DC. It hasn't held the spotlight like some of the other Ultimate titles, but it has been a solid pivot book for those looking to break into the new Ultimate Universe without breaking the bank. Granted, there's no true first appearance in this, though issue #2 hints at Maystorm's official first full appearance. There's also some debate over the lineup missing our favorite core characters, but overall, it has plenty of fans (and Armor is pretty awesome). It's doing something different than typical comics (if you're a manga fan, check it out). Another theory is Marvel caught on to the Ultimate hype and opted to print a TON of copies, enabling collectors to get it from their LCS when they had previously resorted to heavy online sales. Week after week, there was a flurry of sales, constant social media threads tracking the book, and healthy aftermarket chatter. That's begun to slow, some, as more copies inevitably reach the hands of eager collectors. Some will opt to retain it on their PC, leading to less copies trading overall. Still, what this book has achieved is phenomenal! As the release date for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 approached, many fans thought we would see a tease for the character in the movie. Prior to release, James Gunn took to Twitter to reveal this was not the case. Since then, news on the Nova project hit a hiatus. The post was about Hemo-Goblin being the worst/most controversial villain; he's a white supremacist vampire whose power allows him to bite enemies and give them AIDS/HIV. The post was shared eight days ago, receiving over 13K reactions, and has a thriving comments section of over 500 replies. PopCultureBrain then highlighted the villain in one of their videos, informing countless thousands more of this dastardly scoundrel. Sales have recently started fluctuating, dropping in sales since last week and causing this book to fall to 7th place from 2nd. Even among the swings in sales, this book is still moving enough to keep it in the top ten! With no MCU rumors/ties, this book has been pushing sales all on its own. That speaks to the staying power of this new series and the awesome talent behind it! Star Wars comics are known for debuting a whole roster of new characters in a single issue. This book introduces not 1, not 2… but a staggering eight new characters! It's been a week since the release of this book, and it has seen a meteoric rise. The FMV on this book has jumped over 4x the cover price! It has a healthy aftermarket demand, and Star Wars fans have been known to keep a book hot for weeks after its debut. Let's see how this book fares in next week's numbers! This book was in previous top ten lists during its release and, subsequently, following the announcement that Amazon was looking into the property for a future production. This book is now on the radar of every collector out there as we learned that Seth Rogen and Point Grey Pictures will be producing a movie for this property! Not only that, but they have also tapped Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse co-director Rodney Rothman to adapt the storyline. Those are heavy hitters in the industry, leading many to believe this is a film to keep an eye on… and a comic to pick up sooner rather than later! We tracked it at a high sale of $110 for a CGC 9.8 copy and a raw NM FMV of $32. #4: THE NEW MUTANTS #98 | MARVEL | 1991: In case you haven't heard, and we really don't know how you haven't, Deadpool 3 is set to debut in July this year! We're about four months away from the only MCU movie to hit the silver screen this year. Not only is this Deadpool's first introduction into the MCU but Deadpool is also being tasked with repairing it. The trailer strongly hinted at Deadpool taking to different timelines/universes for assignments tasked by the TVA. This movie has been rife with countless cameo rumors. The latest comes from a comment by James Marsden (aka Cyclops). In an interview for Sonic 3, he subtly commented that he filmed Sonic 3 next to the Deadpool 3 stages.
