Ok, ça me rassure.
Ca existe depuis 1 moment, ça ne m'avait jamais tenté en preview. S'il n'y avait eu cette mise en avant avec les Awards, je ne me serais même pas posé la question.

J'ai été lire des critiques de Monstress, et en majorité elles disent la même chose : un univers complexe qui demande un moment d'adaptation, et le lecteur est récompensé ensuite par une trame riche.

My favorite thing is monsters, Emil Ferris, donc.
Sans doute une des bandes-dessinées les plus incroyables publiée ces 10 dernières années.
L'adaptation française sort fin août chez l'excellentissime éditeur Monsieur Toussaint Louverture, friand de projets complètement hors-normes comme celui-ci.





C'est le journal de Karen Reyes, une petite fille d'une dizaine d'années dans le Chicago des années 60. Différente, elle décline un imaginaire issu de ses lectures de comics horrifiques. L'apparent suicide, auquel elle ne croit pas, d'une voisine juive rescapée de la Shoah va l'entraîner dans une enquête où se tapissent d'autres monstres.
My favorite thing is monsters mélange avec brio drame familial intime, description du Chicago de l'époque et immersion dans le quotidien d'une jeune fille juive ballotée dans l'histoire allemande de la république de Weimar aux camps d'extermination.

L'album de 400 pages (c'est le premier tome d'une œuvre qui en comptera deux) est entièrement dessiné au bic dans un tour de force graphique dont je ne connais aucun équivalent.
Genre, un exemple :




Ce qui étonne également, c'est le parcours de son auteur Emil Ferris.
Elle a plus de 50 ans quand parait My favorite thing, sa première œuvre publiée, fruit d'un parcours de vie lui aussi particulièrement unique.


Bon, c'est peu de dire que c'est LA bande-dessinée de l'année.
