Green Lantern is heading down under.
As officially announced by New South Wales premier Nathan Rees, the film version of DC Comics’
Green Lantern will be filmed at Fox Studios Australia in Sydney. According to
The Hollywood Reporter,
the film version of DC’s space hero has a budget of $150 million – a figure that places the film ahead of Iron Man’s estimated budget of $140 million, and in line with the estimated production budget of Watchmen’s, which was also $150 million.
Rees said that the film’s production, directed by
Casino Royale director Martin Campbell will create 500 jobs for the local economy, and
THR reports that the film should be eligible to receive the 15% location rebate from the Australian government, in addition to incentives from the New South Wales government. In short, Warner Bros. will be getting more production for their money, thanks to the decline in the value of the Australian dollar.
Pre-production on the film is slated to begin in July, with filming on the film with a script by Greg Berlanti and Michael Green to begin in November. Currently,
Green Lantern is scheduled to open on December 17th, 2010.
