"I remember exactly because it was crazy. Walking through Marvel one day and Bob H (Harras) asked me if I wanted to draw the “Wolverine Annual”— I asked who was writing it and he told me there was no writer yet. I had (and still have) no interest in Wolverine but (being a smart ass) rather than say no I said “if you get Walt to write it and it’s about Wolverine going to the Savage Land and becoming king of the cavemen I’ll do it”. And I walked off and figured that was the last I’d here of that— and the next day you (Walt Simonson) called me and said something like “so I guess we’re doing a Wolverine book”. It’s the best story I have about getting a job." |
