With DC hero Mr. Terrific set to appear in this summer's Superman movie, played by Edi Gathegi, it's no surprise that DC is turning its attention to the long-running character once again with a new solo comic.
Mr. Terrific: Year One is a new six-issue limited series from writer Al Letson, artist Valentine De Landro (with additional art by Edwin Galmon), colorist Marissa Louise, and letterer Lucas Gattoni. Although some parts of the new series will take place in the present, the majority of the comic appears to turn the clock back to the beginning of Michael Holt's career as a hero, and particularly his tragic origin story which will be "dramatically revisited and expanded," according to DC.
"A genius-level inventor and Olympic champion, Michael Holt's life was destined for greatness," reads the official synopsis. "But that life came to a screeching halt when his wife, Paula, and unborn son were killed in a car accident. The Holts once shared ambitious dreams of using their technology to help others, but after the tragedy, Michael retreats from society, selling Holt Industries to mysterious and craven tech billionaire Athena Prescott. Surrendering his dream sets off an explosive chain of events, taking the exceptionally intelligent Holt from the depths of despair to the heights of heroism as Mr. Terrific."
"Valentine and I are diving deep and telling the origin story of who Mr. Terrific is as a man, and as a super hero," said Letson in a statement about the new comic. "I've loved Valentine’s work for years, and working on this series has been a dream. I can't wait for fans to see what we're cooking up."
"Working with Al, Marissa, Edwin, and Lucas, as well as the DC editorial team, has been an absolute blast," added artist Valentine De Landro. "I'm excited to contribute to Mr. Terrific's story, a character I've enjoyed reading throughout the years."

Mr Terrific: Year One #1 is published by DC on May 28.

We actually just had a big Zoom summit with all the Absolute writers about how to make these characters meet each other this year. So we're definitely having the Absolute characters meet each other. I don't want to give away who meets who because we want it to be a little surprising. Instead of it being the ones you might expect the most, it might be other ones and some of the ones you expect. But ultimately, in 2025, the characters will cross paths and start to create relationships with each other. I'm very excited for that.
With Free Comic Book Day, you'll start to see more of the connective tissue between our universe and the main universe. Then, later in the year, we're going to be doing a special. We haven't announced it yet, but we're going to be doing a special that shows the secret villainous connections from the books -- how the villains in a lot of our books, like Absolute Supermen, Absolute Wonder Woman, Absolute Batman -- are actually more connected than you realize.

GLENDALE, CA and BURBANK, CA, February 20, 2025 – DC’s Summer of Superman publishing initiative welcomes (back) the Maiden of Might to the publisher’s roster of DC All In titles with the debut of Supergirl, an all-new DC All In series, written and illustrated by celebrated storyteller Sophie Campbell (Wet Moon, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles).
Kara Zor-El has always been a key member of the Super-Family in Metropolis, but Campbell is taking Supergirl in a new direction among familiar surroundings as she gets back to her roots in the town of Midvale. But returning to her hometown after so many years away already presents some challenges: there’s already another Supergirl there, protecting the town and saving the day. Readers will have to check out the debut issue on May 14 to find out if the real Supergirl can discover the identity of the impostor and stop them before they steal her very life!
“I came up in the comics industry doing mostly graphic novels that I wrote and drew myself, so doing the same with Supergirl feels like I’m returning to my storytelling roots,” said Supergirl writer/artist Sophie Campbell. “My main touchstones to Kara Zor-El were the stories and the wild costumes from the 70’s, the 1984 Supergirl movie, and the CW show, which I was a huge fan of. In creating this version of Supergirl, I’ll be drawing on some of those influences as the series unfolds.”
With a new series, Supergirl also gets a new costume, designed by bestselling cover artist Stanley “Artgerm” Lau. Supergirl’s fresh look will be spotlighted on the main cover by series writer/artist Campbell and a card stock and foil variant by Artgerm, as well as variant covers by Bilquis Evely (Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow), Pablo Villalobos, Joshua Middleton and W. Scott Forbes.
“Having done artwork for video games, I’m pretty familiar with creating character designs and costumes,” said Artgerm. “In designing a new costume for Supergirl, I wanted to create something fresh while keeping the key elements intact. I adopted the theme of ‘sporty and fun, but packs a punch,’ and incorporated those elements in the costume; I also made changes to the chest symbol to give it a more dynamic spin. Sophie’s captured the look perfectly, and I can’t wait for readers to see it.”

DC et Marvel vont de nouveau réaliser des crossovers intercompagnies : 2 sont prévus en 2025!!
DC and Marvel have been teasing a lot of new projects out of this week’s ComicsPRO 2025 retailer expo, but the biggest news may come not from one of those publishers, but from both of them. During a presentation today DC editor-in-chief Marie Javins and Marvel editor-in-chief C.B. Cebulski jointly announced that DC and Marvel will crossover yet again later this year.
According to on-the-scene live-skeeting from The Beat’s fearless founder Heidi MacDonald, the crossover will come in the form of two one-shots, titled DC/Marvel and Marvel/DC. No additional details were revealed at this time.
The news is not a huge surprise given the massive success of the recent omnibus collections of the past DC and Marvel crossovers, not to mention the limited-edition JLA/Avengers collection that was made available as a fundraiser for The Hero Initiative back in 2022. With the comics industry facing an uncertain future, a project like this will likely be a welcome shot-in-the-arm for retailers.

Acclaimed writer Mark Waid returns to Superman this summer with artist Skylar Patridge (in her DC ongoing series debut) as the new creative team on one of DC’s flagship titles, Action Comics. Beginning with June’s Action Comics #1087, this new team also takes the series in a new direction, spotlighting Clark Kent as Superboy, in his hometown of Smallville on the Kent family farm.
"I start the book with Clark as a 15-year-old boy, learning to be a superhero for the first time,” said Waid. “What is that like, learning to use your powers at that age? What kind of challenges are you facing? Skylar and I are also bringing Smallville a little more up to date—it still has that rustic feel to it, but farms don’t look like that anymore."
This can’t-miss story, with ties to the present storylines in DC’s comic books, takes the Boy of Steel to unexpected heights as he figures out what being a hero truly means. First stop, Metropolis’s Expo of Tomorrow! Will Clark be able to blend into the crowd? Or is Superboy about to make his public debut?! Action Comics #1087 will have a main cover by Ryan Sook, plus variants by Skylar Patridge, David Talaski, and Lesley “Leirix” Le.

J'espère que les nouvelles rencontres se feront avec des nouveaux personnages et que l'on évitera un N ième affrontement Superman/Spider-man. Ouais, ce sera sans doute des trucs prévisibles avec les vaches à lait.
Si Ewing réussit à convaincre quelqu'un de lui refiler une histoire Nova/GL-Corps, ce serait cool, par contre.
