Today, DC announced the new five-issue comic book series Peacemaker Presents: The Vigilante/Eagly Double Feature! by creators Tim Seeley and Mitch Gerads (on the Vigilante story) and Rex Ogle and Matteo Lolli (on the Eagly story), with James Gunn as story consultant. Set between seasons one and two of Max Original series Peacemaker, the comic will give fans and readers a taste of where the hit television show will go in 2025…with two of its fan-favorite characters!

In DC’s upcoming Peacemaker Presents: The Vigilante/Eagly Double Feature! comic book series (Ages 17+), Peacemaker “stars” in two in-world stories with his two best friends—Eagly and Vigilante! Each storyline picks up right where the Max Original show ended…with Peacemaker missing!

In the Eagly story, we see exactly where Christopher has been: in the Alaska outdoors to get some fresh air, with his real best bird-friend, Eagly. On their small-plane trip, they and the other passengers are gassed and knocked out. When they wake up, they find themselves being hunted for sport by a dangerous group of Super-Villains…a far cry from the peaceful vacation Chris had in mind! But little do the hunters know they’ve bitten off more than they can chew…

“When [DC editor] Katie Kubert asked me to do a short for DC’s Strange Love Adventures, I was stoked to write a Peacemaker story,” said writer Rex Ogle on the Eagly (and Peacemaker) half of the double feature. “So getting to dive back in and play with this iconic antihero again (and in a miniseries this time!) is a total dream. Part of what makes him so great is that at his core, Peacemaker is a hopeless optimist. He wants the world to be a better place, not just for himself, but for others. He doesn’t always go about achieving peace in the right way, but he brings an incredible levity to the violence that is already ever-present in our world. And sometimes we need to laugh at the bad—so we don’t break down and cry.”

“Bringing Peacemaker and Eagly to life in a comic is like unleashing chaos and heart on every page,” said artist Matteo Lolli. “Rex was able to both capture their funny bond and make for a perfect mix of action and humor. Drawing Peacemaker is obviously a blast, but capturing a character that doesn’t speak? Not easy. And what if this character happens to be a bird to whom nature gave by default a stern and angry look? That’s a whole other challenge, and I wasn’t sure I could deliver it without the right kind of script. Luckily for me, Rex did a fantastic job with it. It’s pure fun to see their unpredictable dynamic unleashed in this new adventure.”

“I write a ton of books and graphic novels for middle grade and young adult readers, which I love,” continued Ogle, “but there’s nothing quite like returning to my comic book roots to work on something where I can unleash my inner creative beast. Writing Christopher Smith lets me do just that—go buck wild—not just with some good ol’ fashioned violence, but with humor and unnecessary nudity. Peacemaker lets me live the dream of writing stories I wanted to read as a kid.”

In the Vigilante story, Adrian goes to Peacemaker’s house for beers and blowing things up, but finds Chris and Eagly gone. Immediately assuming they’ve been kidnapped or worse, Vigilante suits up for a vengeance-filled spree against the local criminal community. Meanwhile, Chris and Eagly are on their bromantic vacation to Alaska, with Chris having completely forgotten to ask Adrian to go…or even tell him he was gone!

“I’m in my Vigilante era,” said artist Mitch Gerads on the Vigilante (without Peacemaker) half of the double feature. “I have 100 Taylor Swift friendship bracelets to trade—they’re in Vigilante colors and say ‘Vigilante Shit.’ Come find me at NYCC and join the fun.”

“Awkward. Clueless. Possibly psychotic. Obsessed with destroying furniture. That’s Mitch Gerads,” said writer Tim Seeley. “Oh…wait? You mean you want me to describe Adrian Chase, Vigilante? Oh, sure. He’s the coolest dude ever and he smashes so many chicks. Also, he’s a great friend, and definitely not a serial-killing busboy. Peacemaker is lucky to call him “bro,” and Mitch and I are lucky to continue his horrifically violent adventures at DC Comics.”

Peacemaker Presents: The Vigilante/Eagly Double Feature!, featuring a Vigilante story by writer Tim Seeley, artist Mitch Gerads, and letterer Pat Brosseau, and an Eagly story by writer Rex Ogle, artist Matteo Lolli, colorist John Kalisz, and letterer Pat Brosseau, with overall story consultant James Gunn, will publish beginning in March with main covers by Gerads. Peacemaker Presents: The Vigilante/Eagly Double Feature! will carry DC’s Ages 17+ content descriptor (for mature readers). Visit your local comic book shop for more details and to preorder this series bridging Max Original series Peacemaker seasons one and two.

Today DC revealed artwork and covers for Peacemaker Presents: The Vigilante/Eagly Double Feature! This five-issue DC Black Label limited series is inspired by DC Studios’ James Gunn’s visionary Peacemaker series on Max and features two original stories: one spotlighting Peacemaker and his avian sidekick Eagly, and one his crime-fighting friend Adrian Chase, a.k.a. Vigilante.

Gunn also serves as story consultant for the series, which debuts at participating comic book shops and digital retailers March 26.

In “Peaceful Vacation,” writer Rex Ogle and artists Matteo Lolli and John Kalisz take Eagly and Chris Smith (a.k.a. Peacemaker) to the great outdoors of Alaska for some well-deserved rest and relaxation from doling out peace in their own over-the-top style. But when their trip is interrupted by a group of masked hijackers (and an annoying flight attendant), it’s up to a certain eagle and his pet human to save the day.

Unfortunately, Peacemaker forgets to tell his pal Vigilante about his vacation plans, and now Vigilante thinks Peacemaker and Eagly have been kidnapped by the Controller, which means big trouble for the criminals of Evergreen, with knives, axes, and gore galore! “A Time for Fables” is written by Tim Seeley and features art by Mitch Gerads. Each issue of the series will include diary entries from Vigilante on “How to Be A Super-Hero,” written by Freddie Stroma, who portrays the character in the Max series.

Gerads also provides the main cover for the debut issue, with variant covers by some of the top artists in comics: Darick Robertson, Matteo Lolli, and Dan Panosian. Gerads’s main cover is also available as a foil variant.

THEY GIVE PEACE A BAD NAME!

DC Studios’ James Gunn steps in as story consultant for 5 issues of insane $%&!@#$ calamity when two fan-favorite characters share the spotlight (and equal page count!) The Vigilante story starts when Peacemaker has disappeared! It’s up to Adrian Chase, the Vigilante and Peacemaker’s Bestest Friend to find him! The crime bosses of Evergreen must pay! BLOOD WILL BE SPILLED! (oh, wait, you say Peacemaker is just on vacation? Oh. uh. Don’t tell Adrian.) Meanwhile, Eagly and his sidekick, Chris Smith (aka Peacemaker), are exhausted! After kicking the #$%@ out of a buncha Nazi lizard dudes, it’s time to head to the great outdoors for some fresh air and a much needed vacay. But when their commute is co-opted by a bunch of masked &$#%$@#!, it’s up to a certain eagle hero and his pet human to get themselves (and some dumb innocent folks) out of quite the pickle. Will lives be lost? Duh. An original DC Comics story, inspired by James Gunn’s visionary Peacemaker series on MAX, ya best get ready to rumble!
