DC Comics unveils DC All-In Special #1 starting the Absolute Universe in October.
Absolute Batman #1 to launch alongside, offering a modern take on classic heroes.
Both new Absolute narratives and legacy Prime Earth stories will unfold concurrently.
Expect major revelations at San Diego Comic-Con, with Scott Snyder leading the project.


Here we go. I can confirm that the Absolute Universe line will launch from DC Comics in October 2024. And that the lead writers and artists will be Jason Aaron, Deniz Camp, Wes Craig, Nick Dragotta, Al Ewing, Che Grayson, Jeff Lemire, Jahnoy Lindsay, Pornsak Pichetshote, Nick Robles, Rafa Sandoval, Hayden Sherman, Scott Snyder and Kelly Thompson.

Previously we had reported that the line would include Absolute Batman by Scott Snyder and Nick Dragotta, Absolute Superman by Jason Aaron and Absolute Wonder Woman by Kelly Thompson. Oh and that Al Ewing was involved.

But there are plenty of new names as well. Deniz Camp, currently writing The Ultimates at Marvel – he's the only person working on both Absolute and Ultimate titles.

Che Grayson is a filmmaker, TED Speaker and writer on Dark Spaces, Bitch Planet, Batman Urban Legends and other DC anthologies, often working with Scott Snyder

Jeff Lemire is the creator and co-creator of comics including Sweet Tooth, Essex County Trilogy, Sweet Tooth, Descender, The Nobody, Black Hammer, Plutona, and he created AD with Scott Snyder.

Jahnoy Lindsay is a comic book artist and is best known for Superboy: The Man Of Tomorrow, Hawkeye Kate Bishop, She-Hulk, Angel, Luke Cage, Scar, Grim and more.

Pornsak Pichetshote is a comic book editor, writer, and film director known for editing Sweet Tooth, WE3, The Losers, Testament, and The Unwritten, as well as writing The Infidel, The Good Asian and has just launched The Horizon Project at Image Comics.

Nick Robles is a comic book artist known for The Dreaming, Kong of Skull Island, The Oddly Pedestrian Life Of Christopher Chaos, Clockwork Angels, Euthanauts, Power Rangers and more.

Rafa Sandoval is a comic book artist known for The Flash, Green Lantern, Teen Itancs Academy, Catwoman, X-O Mankwar, Action Comics and X-Men Legacy.

Je me disais bien que le fait que la nouvelle ligne Absolute reprenne comme par hasard le même mot que le crossover actuel n'était peut-être pas un hasard... cela dit, je ne sais pas si c'est une bonne nouvelle; j'aurai préféré, je pense, un univers entièrement nouveau qui ne soit relié d'aucune façon à l'actuel. Cela dit, on savait déjà qu'une rencontre était envisagée à l'avenir, donc c'est plus logique s'il s'agit d'une émanation de l'univers classique; par ailleurs, on a déjà eu des versions "Ultimate" de DC (Earth-One notamment), donc là, l'approche est différente, finalement plus proche de la ligne Ultimate récente.

The speculation is over as Scott Snyder and Joshua Williamson took to DC Comics’ YouTube to reveal their next big project: DC All In. Snyder and Williamson discussed the future of the DC Comics Universe—and beyond—starting in the oversized DC ALL IN SPECIAL comic, which is on sale in October.

Snyder called it the “biggest initiative” DC has done in decades. They made it clear this isn’t an event, but an “initiative.” The idea is this initiative opens up the story so creators can come in and tell their best stories. “The greatest jumping on point,” Snyder called it.

Snyder made it clear there is no reboot or retcon to the current universe.

All-In Special will be a flip book with one side featuring art by Daniel Sampere and the other by Wes Craig. Sampere will focus on Superman’s side, while the other side is from the point of view of Darkseid.

The special “Reintroduces Darkseid as who he should be. The greatest villain of the DCU,” Snyder said. “Darkseid starts to realize something has always been missing. He senses something has changed, and once he realizes this, it sets him on a quest.” Darkseid will then collide with a new Justice League.

“One thing it creates is a dangerous wild new planet where we’ve invited in the biggest names in comics and some rising stars to reinvent the characters,” Snyder added. “All in one place.” The story will create a “driving force” for the company for “years to come.”

Williamson added this is one big story and it’s part of the “Absolute” world.

“If the main universe is set up by Superman energy, this universe is founded on Darkseid energy,” Snyder added. That makes the heroes underdogs, Snyder explained. “They have to be tougher. Have to be more resourceful,” and that makes them more badass.

Williamson and Dan Mora will be working on Superman and introducing a new Superwoman, with the return of Doomsday.

Snyder added, “All In is a rallying cry.” Not only are the creators at DC Comics all-in, but the creators, retailers, and fans.

Faut voir même si absolute.. j aurais préféré une ligne à la all star qu une continuité parallèle surtout qu elle se rejoindra donc..

Je ne veux du Elseworld et pas de What if c'est à dire qu'il me faut un vrai pitch fort (ce que j'ai retrouvé ni dans les All-Star ni dans les Earth One).

Les comics doivent être en continuité ou alors prendre un biais puissant. Là une fois de plus ca me donne l'impression que le hors continuité est seulement de la paresse intellectuelle.

At DC's Absolute Power panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2024, Absolute Batman writer Scott Snyder said the publisher would be doing "incentives" and "giveaways" in comic shops each week starting in October to promote the Absolute Universe comics and the 'All In' initiative as a whole - and now we know what a major part of that is.

As revealed in a closed-door retailer event hosted by Lunar Distribution, DC will be sending out Justice League membership cards to retailers beginning in October - with a new Justice League member featured each week.

"Customers that purchase 4 different All In titles each week will receive a JL membership card for free," reads a slide shared with retailers. "Goal is to get consumers to come to stores every week by giving them an extra reward."

Snyder, who was at the retailer event, opened the door to retailers giving it to more than just those that buy four 'All In' titles - saying it could be any DC title, or in fact any comic at all - even those from Marvel Comics, Image Comics, or anything - including name-checking Silver Sprocket's amazing comics.

October week 3: Wonder Woman
October week 4: a general Justice League membership card

Ram V broke some exciting news about his contribution to the DC All In initiative, announcing that he’ll be writing his own take on Jack Kirby’s Fourth World in The New Gods, scheduled to launch this December and featuring art by Detective Comics cover artist Evan Cagle in his DC series debut.

Ram spoke to the audience about what attracted him to this project and working with Cagle, and hinted at what readers can expect when the debut issue hits participating comic book shops.

“Absolute and All In triggers a cosmic imbalance which starts this spiral between New Genesis and apocalypse,” Ram V said. Ram V added it’s also a story about fatherhood.

Who do you get to investigate a murder at the most secure superhero stronghold in the world, and when every member of the Justice League is a suspect? The answer is the Question. That is, detective Renee Montoya’s superhero alias, in The Question: All Along the Watchtower #1, a new ongoing series from DC Comics this November.

Written by Alex Segura (The Black Ghost) and drawn by Cian Tormey (Son of Superman), All Along the Watchtower will follow Renee after Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman call her up to the Justice League’s orbital Watchtower headquarters to solve a murder most foul.

Segura, who’s made a name with comics-themed mystery novels Secret Identity and Alter Ego, is a natural fit for that hook. He told Polygon via email that the biggest influences on Watchtower are the classics: “like Sherlock Holmes or Agatha Christie: plot-driven novels that feature colorful characters and situations, often outside of the expected or mundane. But I’d also have to tip my hat to more modern PI novels, like the work of Walter Mosley, Laura Lippman, and George Pelecanos — stories about flawed protagonists in over their heads, trying to do the right thing.”

Cartoon fans will recognize Renee Montoya from her copious appearances as a police detective in Batman adaptations — from her origin in Batman: The Animated Series, to the Gotham TV series, to the Birds of Prey movie, all the way up to her supporting role in this summer’s Batman: The Caped Crusader. Less frequently appearing in adaptations is her superhero alter ego, inherited from the original Question in the pages of DC’s venerable 2006 series, 52.

Segura says his comics influences when it comes to Renee involve two writers: Denny O’Neil, who first wrote the Question into the DC Universe, and Greg Rucka, who spearheaded Renee’s evolution, along with their frequent collaborators, artists Denys Cowan and Cully Hamner. “I don’t presume to carry that torch, but I’ve taken to heart the stories they’ve told with Renee, where we see her trying her best to overcome her own demons to do the right thing,” Segura said. “I think the challenge of doing that in this story, which involves Renee walking among an array of heroes that are akin to gods, is part of the fun — and it’s made me think of classic superhero mysteries like The Long Halloween, Human Target, and Wagner/Seagle/Davis’s essential Sandman Mystery Theater, except on a much bigger and more surreal stage: the JL Watchtower.”

Watchtower takes place after DC’s 2024 summer crossover, and features a revitalized Justice League and an entirely new Watchtower satellite headquarters. The setup gave Tormey free rein to invent his own take on the classic comics setting. He described it in one word: “Scale.”

“The last book I drew was set in 1930s New York,” Tormey told Polygon via email. “So getting to grips with drawing a huge station full of aspirational tech was such an exciting challenge. Add to that the fact that we would be telling a noir story — usually the stuff of dive bars, smoke filled rooms and back alleys — in a clinical pristine environment, that juxtaposition was too intriguing to pass up! […]

“The Watchtower is as much a character in this as Renee herself, but, it’s a noir story when all is said and done — so you’ll have to trust me when I say, there’s a lot of thought put into all those backgrounds you won’t be able to see under all the blood and shadows!”
