https://buzzpreview.buzzcomics.net/2024-01/Image/transformers-skybound.webp
Today Skybound and Image Comics, in collaboration with leading toy and game company Hasbro, revealed that Eisner Award-nominated artist Jorge Corona (Middlewest) will join Daniel Warren Johnson’s TRANSFORMERS as series artist, for the second story arc. The next arc of the smash hit series kicks off with issue #7, which will be available on shelves in comic book shops April 10, 2024.
TRANSFORMERS #7 will continue the Energon Universe and the all-new era of the iconic TRANSFORMERS franchise from writer (and current series artist) Daniel Warren Johnson (Extremity, Do a Powerbomb) and colorist Mike Spicer (Stillwater, Murder Falcon). Following what promises to be an epic end to the first story arc with the upcoming TRANSFORMERS #5 and #6, Jorge Corona joins to begin the Energon Universe story that will have everyone talking.
“It’s a rare breed of artist that can naturally bring an organic quality to things that are inherently mechanical, and Jorge is one of those chosen few,” said Daniel Warren Johnson. “Prepare your eyes for a feast of brawn and beauty, my friends. This man draws a mean looking Soundwave. KA BAM!”
“It started with a ‘Do you want to work on a book with Daniel Warren Johnson?’ and just in case that wasn’t a deafening ‘YES,’ they added: ‘It’s for the TRANSFORMERS book,’” said Jorge Corona. “Growing up with TRANSFORMERS and its many iterations expanded in many ways what a cartoon could do for me. Even though it had the classic good vs. evil premise, it also added malleability to what the characters could do in that world. Betrayals, regrets, self-doubts, were all emotions that drove these characters and it added a complexity that I wasn’t familiar with in other shows. Fast forward to 30 years later and here I am seeing Daniel’s take on the franchise, rooted in his love for the original Generation One version, and it’s like reliving those childhood memories multiplied by a thousand. I am very honored and humbled to be a part of this project and cannot wait to share all of the craziness that’s coming up in the book.”
The Energon Universe officially began in June 2023 with the surprise first appearance of iconic TRANSFORMERS character Jetfire in Void Rivals #1, introducing the historic new collaboration between Hasbro and Skybound, with TRANSFORMERS and G.I. JOE comics finding a new home with the publisher. The Energon Universe recently expanded with the launch of Duke #1, a limited series from Joshua Williamson (DC’s Superman, Dark Ride), Tom Reilly (The Thing) and Jordie Bellaire (W0rldtr33). Next up for the Energon Universe is the launch of Cobra Commander #1 later this month from Joshua Williamson, Andrea Milana and Annalisa Leoni. Fans should expect can’t-miss moments from every issue of the Energon Universe, as secrets are unveiled along the path to answering the BIG questions.
TRANSFORMERS #7 (SRP: $3.99) will be available at comic book shops and digital platforms including Amazon Kindle, Apple Books, comiXology, and Google Play on Wednesday, April 10, 2024.

Le Spawn Universe s'étend suite à Spawn #350 :
Spawn creator Todd McFarlane has announced a raft of new series that will enlarge the universe of the long-running franchise, which is published by Image Comics. All will spin out of Spawn #350 and the expansion will be dubbed “the New U.” Cover prices will be $2.99 or $3.99, as is the case for most other Spawn single-issue comics.
The first series, Sam & Twitch: Case Files, will feature the eponymous New York detectives, who first appeared in Spawn#1, solving murders in a noir-inflected atmosphere. The stories, written by McFarlane and co-plotted by Jon Goff, with art by Szymon Kudrański, will be episodic and reminiscent of R-rated true-crime dramas. The first issue will be released on March 27, 2024, with cover A by Kevin Keane and cover B by McFarlane; the cover price will be $2.99.
Rat City, by writer Erica Schultz and artist Zé Carlos, is set in the future and features former soldier Peter Cairn, an amputee whose prosthetic legs contain nanites that were affected by Al Simmons’ actions in the present, turning him into a Hellspawn. The extra-long first issue will be available on April 10 with a cover by Carlos and an MSRP of $3.99.
Monolith, by Sean Lewis and Valerio Giangiordano, is a three-issue miniseries that focuses on the origin story of the massive red Hellspawn. The first issue will be released on May 15 with a cover by Giangiordano and a cover price of $2.99.
McFarlane plans to roll out a number of other miniseries and ongoing series throughout 2024. Three four-issue miniseries, Misery, Medieval Spawn, and Spawn Kills Every Spawn, will launch in June and July. August will see the launch of Violator, an oversized six-issue limited series focusing on that character, and Knights vs. Samurai, written by actor and writer David Dastmalchian. That will be followed by Deadly Tales, a new ongoing series, in September, and No Home Here, which will have an extended page count and a bimonthly release schedule, in October. And four more series are in the works as well: Focus, Spawn: The Dark Ages, She-Spawn, Bloodletter, and Spawn 77.

https://buzzpreview.buzzcomics.net/2024-06/Image/GIJoe01A_WrapCover_RGB-copy.webp
In celebration of Yo Joe June, today Skybound and Image Comics, in collaboration with leading toy and game company Hasbro, announced the debut of all-new ongoing series G.I. JOE #1 from the superstar creative team of writer Joshua Williamson (Duke, Cobra Commander), artist Tom Reilly (Duke) and colorist Jordie Bellaire (W0rldtr33). The biggest comic book launch of the decade will introduce a bold new vision of G.I. JOE and Cobra to the Energon Universe on Wednesday, November 13.
Conrad Hauser, Codename DUKE, has assembled a special force known as G.I. Joe to battle the rising power of the mysterious COBRA in the aftermath of the Autobots and Decepticons’ arrival on Earth. But the enigmatic Cobra Commander has unleashed the power of Energon like never before!
Featuring the First Appearance of an ALL-NEW character and many familiar faces, this is the comic that will change everything you think you know about G.I. JOE…and that’s only half the surprises in store!
“Finally! The team is together! The response to the mini-series that led to this moment has been phenomenal, it’s been exciting to see lifelong fans of the iconic series and new readers come together to support G.I. JOE in the Energon Universe,” said Joshua Williamson. “What has come before was just a glimpse into the massive world full of action and drama that we’re bringing with the new ongoing series. Now it’s time to amp up the story as newly formed G.I. Joe and Cobra meet for the first time! Our first issue rocks the Energon Universe in major ways with big moments we’ve been dying to unleash. Tom and Jordie are killing it and bringing the heat with every page. You do not want to miss G.I. JOE #1. Yo Joe!”
“I’m very excited to return to the Energon Universe with my DUKE squad mates, Josh and Jordie. It’s not every day you get to help build something this big, let alone with some of the best talent the industry has to offer,” added Tom Reilly. “To be asked to continue building with them is a challenge that I happily accept. We’re going to bring you G.I. JOE like you’ve never seen them before, so get ready for a wild ride! ”
“All the hard work, planning and world building has led to this momentous launch,” said Ben Abernathy, Executive Editor at Skybound. “Joshua, Tom, and Jordie have crafted a senses-shattering first issue that will reward loyal Energon Universe fans with an amazing debut but have also managed to make it a perfect jumping on point for new readers.”
“I love it when a plan comes together. With the foundation laid, Skybound is primed to expand the Energon Universe with an ongoing G.I. JOE series,” added Robert Kirkman. “Duke, Cobra Commander, Scarlett and Destro have been mere teases of what we have in store. Now Josh, Tom and crew are bringing us a new vision of these beloved characters that will stand next to TRANSFORMERS and Void Rivals as the cornerstones of the Energon Universe!”
The all-new series will become another tentpole of the Energon Universe, the crown jewel of the historic collaboration between Hasbro and Skybound, who has introduced a brand-new era of the TRANSFORMERS and G.I. JOE franchises in one shared comic book universe. Energon Universe titles include the ongoing series Void Rivals by writer Robert Kirkman (Invincible, The Walking Dead), artist Lorenzo De Felici (Kroma), and colorist Patricio Delpeche (The Sandman Universe: Nightmare Country) and TRANSFORMERS by writer Daniel Warren Johnson (Extremity, Do a Powerbomb), artist Jorge Corona (Middlewest), and colorist Mike Spicer (Stillwater, Murder Falcon). The Energon Universe also includes G.I. JOE miniseries Duke, from Joshua Williamson , Tom Reilly and Jordie Bellaire ; Cobra Commander from Joshua Williamson, Andrea Milana (Impact Winter: Rook) and Annalisa Leoni (Oblivion Song); Scarlett, from writer Kelly Thompson (Black Widow, Birds of Prey), artist Marco Ferrari (Frontiersman), and colorist Lee Loughridge (I Hate This Place, Killadelphia); and Destro, from writer Dan Watters (Loki, Universal Monsters: Creature from the Black Lagoon Lives!), artist Andrei Bressan (Dark Ride, Birthright), and colorist Adriano Lucas (Dark Ride, Birthright), which introduce the iconic characters of the G.I. JOE and Cobra factions to the Energon Universe. Fans should expect can’t-miss moments from every issue of the Energon Universe, as secrets are unveiled along the path to answering the BIG questions from some of the biggest franchises in comics today.
G.I. JOE #1 will be available at comic book shops and digital platforms including Amazon Kindle, Apple Books, comiXology, and Google Play on Wednesday, November 13, 2024.

The comic book industry is igniting with the launch of Ninth Circle, a bold new publishing company co-founded by veteran writer Garth Ennis (Preacher, The Boys, Punisher), Marguerite Bennett (DC’s Bombshells, Animosity), industry stalwart Joe Pruett (Negative Burn, Cable), critically acclaimed writer Ram V (The Many Deaths of Laila Starr, Detective Comics, The Swamp Thing), and Adam Glass, Hollywood showrunner and Executive Producer (The Equalizer, Supernatural, The Chi) and graphic novelist (Suicide Squad, Deadpool, Luke Cage, Teen Titans). Rounding out the rest of the founders include strategic advisor and founder Michael Bogner (SVP of Legal Affairs at ABGO), and company representative David Stone (TFC Management). Ninth Circle’s lead investor is Kimberly Steward (Manchester By The Sea, Suspiria), and her production company K Period Media will partner with Ninth Circle to produce select titles.
Ninth Circle is launching as an imprint at Image Comics.
Taking inspiration from Dante, who created nine circles of Hell in Inferno, Ninth Circle is set to redefine genre storytelling by combining the visionary creativity and expertise of these incredibly talented storytellers. No capes, no tights, and no romance (unless, of course, that romance includes murder, blood, and mayhem).
In the spirit of the horror books, TV, and films we grew up with and loved, from comic books like Eerie and The Vault of Horror, to Bram Stoker’s Dracula and the novels of the legendary Stephen King, through the Hammer films, Alien, and the iconic Universal Monsters, Ninth Circle will bring cutting edge, terrifying stories to the insatiable fans of horror. The new publisher promises to deliver intensely creative books that explore all of the dark avenues of the horror genre, including the paranormal and demonic, slashers, creatures, psychological, and even a dash of comedy, all coming straight to readers from the deepest depths of Hell.
Ninth Circle’s debut title, Freddie the Fix by Garth Ennis, is a darkly humorous and horrific series that follows Freddie, a fixer who cleans up the messes left behind by the monstrous stars of Hollywood: werewolves, vampires, zombies, aliens, bogeymen, predators, and…things. They all have their vices, they all get in deep trouble. Enter Freddie…to fix it. Illustrated by legendary artist Mike Perkins (Ed Brubaker’s Captain America run, Stephen King’s The Stand and Swamp Thing) and featuring Ennis’s signature gritty storytelling, biting wit, and reverence for genre, Freddie the Fix is an unforgettable addition to the world of graphic storytelling. Freddie the Fix will hit shelves December 11 at comic stores nationwide and digitally through major platforms.
“I’ve always been a big horror fan.” said Garth Ennis, co-founder of Ninth Circle. “With Freddie the Fix, I hope to shock, thrill, and entertain our fans (and maybe give them a laugh or two along the way).”
Adam Glass adds, “Ninth Circle is all about embracing the horror genre in all its forms. With Garth’s unparalleled ability to craft unforgettable worlds; Ram, Marguerite and Joe’s daring eye for pushing the boundaries of the medium; and my own experience in storytelling across multiple mediums, we can’t wait to share these stories with fans.”
Ninth Circle prioritizes quality over quantity. Starting in December with Freddie the Fix, the publisher will deliver beautifully printed double-shot books each month. Each issue contains a stand-alone tale of terror with a beginning, middle, and end. As a company founded by artists for artists, Ninth Circle intends to be a home (or perhaps haunted house) for all artists; a creative hub where established and up-and-coming writers and artists can probe their imagination to deliver new, exciting, and terrifying narratives to audiences.
Ninth Circle has already planned the release of more terrifying comics including works by Marguerite Bennett, illustrated by 2024 Eisner Hall of Fame inductee Jill Thompson (Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman, the Scary Godmother series and Wonder Woman), a tale by Joe Pruett, illustrated by Butch Guice (The Flash, Winter Soldier and Birds of Prey), and a story by Adam Glass, illustrated by Bernard Chang (X-Men, Deadpool and Superman). More titles from Garth Ennis, Ram V and many others are already slated to drop in 2025, solidifying the publisher’s position as a key player in the horror genre.

The special issue of anthology series Ice Cream Man will spotlight one-page horror stories written by some of the biggest names in comics, hitting shelves this January
Spooky genius W. Maxwell Prince (Art Brut, Swan Songs, Haha), writer and co-creator of Ice Cream Man alongside artists Martín Morazzo and Chris O’Halloran, is teaming up with a star-studded lineup of creators for a special issue of the bestselling comic book series. Some of the biggest talent in comics, including Grant Morrison, Patton Oswalt, Kelly Sue DeConnick, Matt Fraction, Jeff Lemire, Geoff Johns, Zoe Thorogood, Deniz Camp, and Frank Barbiere, will join Prince in contributing one-page horror stories alongside art by Morazzo and O’Halloran. Ice Cream Man has rippled through the comic book scene since its debut in 2018 and was scooped up for the big screen recently by veteran writers Alfred Gough and Miles Millar (Wednesday, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice). Along with Volume 10 of the series hitting this November, this tasty treat of a special comic will hit shelves in January 2025.
In the Ice Cream Man anthology series, mysterious horror host, Rick, delivers morsels of delicious terror in every flavor. The genre-defying comic book series features short tales of sorrow, wonder, and redemption, with each installment featuring its own cast of strange characters, dealing with their own special sundae of suffering. And on the periphery of all of them, like the twinkly music of his colorful truck, is the Ice Cream Man—a weaver of stories, a purveyor of sweet treats. Friend. Foe. God. Demon. The man who, with a snap of his fingers—lickety split!—can change the course of your life forever.
"How lucky are we? That some of comics' most beloved writers agreed (or one may say were tricked) into contributing to our issue of one-page horror stories," said Prince. "Our MO has always been compression—getting a full story to fit one floppy. But this is a whole new level, and a whole new challenge. We hope that you like our little stories, and hope even more that you appreciate our guests and their amazing brains."
Ice Cream Man #43 will be available at comic book shops on Wednesday, January 15:
Cover A by Martín Morazzo and Chris O’Halloran
Cover B by Maria Llovet
Ice Cream Man #43 will also be available across many digital platforms, including Amazon Kindle, Apple Books, and Google Play.
The trade paperback edition of Ice Cream Man Vol. 10 takes some daffy deviations in storytelling: an Apocalypse Now full of Figglybumps; a whole town of Gary; and a 2-part decompression about decompression and compression and certain impressions those things tend to make. That familiar music is coming from around the corner…get your wallet ready! Featuring a cover by Morazzo and Prince, Ice Cream Man Vol. 10 (ISBN: 9781534397286, Lunar Code 0524IM265) will be available at local comic book shops on Wednesday, November 20, and independent bookstores, Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Books-a-Million, Indigo, and Waterstones on Tuesday, December 3 (FOC October 14).
Select praise for Ice Cream Man:
“The purveyor of frosty treats is eagerly anticipated by all, but his friendly demeanor masks miraculous powers and a sinister omnipresence that links the tales…As the stories progress, hints are dropped that there is more to Rick than simply serving as a Rod Serling for this contemporary Twilight Zone…This is a perfectly bitter confection for those with a taste for short-form shockers.”—Publishers Weekly
"Don't let the bright colors and happy smiles on the cover fool you—this comic is an anthology horror series and it's downright terrifying. We loved it like we love mint chocolate chip ice cream, which is to say we loved it a lot."—Nerdist
“A trippy, twisted, and surreal ride into suburban horror, and it's just damn fun to read.” —Monkeys Fighting Robots

The superstar team of writer Jason Aaron (Southern Bastards, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Absolute Superman) and artist Mahmud Asrar (Conan the Barbarian, X-Men, Batman & Robin) join forces for the upcoming series, Bug Wars. The extra-length first issue of this six issue, dark fantasy, epic miniseries is set to debut in February 2025 from Image Comics.
Aaron and Asrar will appear on the "Image Comics Presents: Breaking Ground" panel on Sunday, October 20 @ 11 a.m. in room 406.2 at New York Comic Con this week to share more details about the announcement. They can also be found in Artist Alley at tables H42 (Aaron) and D24 (Asrar) where a limited number of Bug Wars ashcans will be available for sale.
Slade Slaymaker is a kid from Alabama suddenly lost in a vicious world beyond his imagining, a world of marauding ant armies, spell-casting spider witches, and beetle-riding barbarians. A kingdom of tiny but deadly warriors hidden in his own backyard. The same world that saw his father eaten alive by insects and now plunges young Slade into the middle of a brutal Bug War to decide the fate of his family.
"When I was a kid, our backyard was a wondrous place, where I spent hours imagining epic adventures, action figures scattered all through the grass. In a lot of ways, I still feel like that kid, running around the yard, making up stories. Only the stories have gotten a bit darker over the years," said Aaron. "For Slade Slaymaker, the backyard of his home in Alabama turns out to be a place of terror and brutality, where sects of tiny sword-wielding Mytes and their armies of flesh-eating beetles and acid-spraying ants have declared war on his family. Think Honey, I Shrunk the Kids meets Game of Thrones."
Asrar added: "Bug Wars is the culmination of what I wanted to do in comics: A fantasy epic told with no holds barred. A tale where our imaginations run wild. A place where we reach the heights of escapism, all while keeping everything grounded with pure human emotion straight from the heart."
A savage, bloody look at the world below our feet, enter: Bug Wars—where tiny warriors wage a violent war for dominance over an insect-driven kingdom.
Bug Wars #1 will be available at comic book shops on Wednesday, February 12, 2025. It will also be available across many digital platforms, including Amazon Kindle, Apple Books, and Google Play.
