In the series debut, Steve Rogers runs into trouble with his apartment building being condemned after the events of Captain America: Sentinel of Liberty #8 and takes it upon himself to make renovations. After a quick team-up with The Fantastic Four to take down Psycho Man, a fatigued Captain America tries to thwart a robbery and is almost shot in the back before contractor Seung Kim gets his attention. Afterward, Rogers enlists Kim's help to fix his apartment, with the story frequently panning back to Rogers' childhood as an orphaned teenager showing the reasoning for his motivations in the present. Elsewhere in the world, Lord of Chaos Asmoday inhabits Travis Lane and meets with A.I.M.'s Arianna Walters. The two devise a plot that threatens to control the world for the next thousand years and begin looking for a base of operations.
