The steampunk pulp hero Rocketeer will return this April for a new series at IDW Publishing, as part of a broader celebration of the character's 40th anniversary.
The Rocketeer: The Great Race is a four-issue series by writer/artist Stephen Mooney which will see our intrepid stunt pilot Cliff Secord take part in an air race that runs from California to France - that's right, from the US west coast to European west coast. This all happens as the drum beats for war are heightening in Europe, as the Rocketeer is a period piece set in just before the second World War.
And yes, Betty (the character based on real-life pin-up model Bettie Page) will be appearing in this series.
"Stephen Mooney has a love and affinity for the Rocketeer, and the time period the iconic character inhabits… all of which is abundantly evident in the story he has crafted," says series editor Scott Dunbier in the announcement. "It's a fun-filled romp, one I think Dave Stevens would enjoy!"
Like Stevens, Mooney is both writing and drawing this Rocketeer story, and follows work on his own WW2-era series, Half Past Danger.
"Writing and drawing a Rocketeer book has long been somewhat of a bucket-list item for me. I grew up on Dave Stevens' unique blend of swashbuckling derring-do and pulpy adventure with Cliff, Betty, and Peevy, and those seminal issues still stand today as one of my favorite series of all time," says Mooney. "It's incredibly daunting and yet also fantastically thrilling and a real challenge. Let's take to the skies!"
Each issue of The Rocketeer: The Great Race will also include an oral history of the character, with contributions from Stevens' friends, family, and fellow artists - as organized by Kelvin Mao, who is working on a documentary of the writer/artist.
Locke & Key's Gabriel Rodriguez has drawn the main cover for The Rocketeer: The Great Race #1, with a variant by Mooney.
The Rocketeer: The Great Race #1 goes on sale in April, as part of a broader 'Rocketeer Month' planned by IDW to celebrate the character's 40th anniversary. As part of the celebration, IDW will be reprinting the long-sold-out Dave Stevens' The Rocketeer Artist's Edition.

Scott Snyder launched a new creator-owned line at IDW this week with Dark Spaces: Wildfire, but a new series was announced today. Titled Dark Spaces: Good Deeds, the new story will be written by Che Grayson (Batman: Urban Legends, Bitch Planet) with art by Kelsey Ramsay (Joan Jett and the Blackhearts 40×40). The monthly series launches sometime in 2023.
“Like Dark Spaces: Wildfire, Good Deeds is a harrowing, character-driven exploration of the personal, ethical, and material consequences of the choices desperate people make under extreme pressure,” Snyder says. “One of our primary goals with the Dark Spaces line is to champion up-and-coming talent and I’m particularly thrilled to be working with Che Grayson, an explosively talented writer and filmmaker, and the exceptional artist Kelsey Ramsay. I can’t wait for readers to experience what they each bring to this series!”

So what’s Dark Spaces: Good Deeds about?
Good Deeds tells a haunting story of historical sins and a supernatural legend out for revenge. When teenager Cheyenne Collins and her mother move to St. Augustine, Florida, on the eve of the town’s anniversary, the community begins to die off one by one and a disgraced journalist steps in to seize the story and redeem her career. As the women are drawn together in the investigation, they uncover the town’s violent obsession with its founding mythology and the Fountain of Youth, as well as their own roles in the reckoning to come.
“I wanted to tell an elemental and chilling story about the entangled nature of American history and the marginalized groups often erased from the narrative,” says Grayson. “Good Deeds exists at the intersection of revisionism, legend, and truth, and my characters are motivated by a desire to either uncover or hide that truth. I’m so excited to partner with Kelsey on the project, an incredible artist whose evocative line work and character design made her the clear pick to help bring this supernatural thriller to life.”
Scott Snyder's Dark Spaces line expands with 'Good Deeds' at IDW
“The Dark Spaces line was built to shine a light on the industry’s most exciting and talented new writers and artists,” says editor Maggie Howell, “and Good Deeds is a perfect example of the top-tier work that grows out of that goal. Che and Kelsey immediately flourished as a creative team. The story they’re telling together is rich and haunting, and their vision is so cohesive and satisfying that it’s hard to believe they haven’t been lifelong collaborators. It’s been a great experience to watch that unfold, and I know readers will sense it on the page.”

SAN DIEGO, CA (July 21, 2022) – IDW is proud and excited to announce the first project in an upcoming lineup of comic books curated by New York Times best-selling author and Dark Spaces: Wildfire creator Scott Snyder. Debuting in 2023, Dark Spaces: Good Deeds will feature a new story written by Che Grayson (Batman: Urban Legends, Bitch Planet) with art by Kelsey Ramsay (Joan Jett and the Blackhearts 40×40). Dark Spaces: Good Deeds is the latest announcement in an upcoming slate of original titles from IDW set to launch throughout 2022 and beyond.

Good Deeds follows hot on the heels of the critically acclaimed Dark Spaces: Wildfire, a scorching five-part heist written by Snyder, with painstakingly detailed artwork by rising star Hayden Sherman and colors by Ronda Pattison.
“Thrillers grounded in reality spook me in the best way,” Ramsay says, “so I was thrilled for the opportunity to become a part of realizing this bleak, enigmatic story. With Che’s incredible voice, infectious energy, and thoughtfulness, it wasn’t difficult to mirror their dazzling creative flourishes in the murky artwork and swampy Southern designs. I’m very excited to be part of this remarkable team, and I can’t wait to share Dark Spaces: Good Deeds!”

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will meet Usagi Yojimbo once again in 2023. Usagi's creator, Stan Sakai will once again will write and draw Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles/Usagi Yojimbo: WhereWhen, a five-issue miniseries from IDW Publishing, partnering with Dogu Publishing and Paramount Consumer Products, and featuring colors by Hi-Fi. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles/Usagi Yojimbo #1 goes on sale in March. The history of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Usagi Yojimbo dates back to 1984, when both were created, Usagi by Saki and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird. That both feature anthropomorphic heroes and a reverence for Japanese culture made it easy for crossovers between the two to occur in comics, multiple animated series, and toy lines in the 40 years since.
"I am so pleased with the story and art for WhereWhen," Sakai says in a statement. "There is a lot of emotion and, of course, lots of action. I actually wrote this story about five years ago and had been anxious to get to it. In the past, the Turtles have met just a few of Usagi's friends. This time, everyone is thrown in—Gen, Tomoe, Jotaro, Yukichi, Kitsune, Chizu, and more! This one is epic!"

In a dying world, only humans and orcs remain, mortal enemies battling for territory and political advantage. But when a group of fearsome ancient humanoids known as the Vangol arrive from across the sea, the two struggling civilizations are forced into a fragile alliance to protect what they have built.
As a gesture of his commitment to the cause, the most powerful orc overlord, Troth Icemane, sends his beloved cousin, Tara, a high-ranking young healer, to fight alongside brash human commander Callum Battlechild and his company of warriors. With a crisis looming, the success of this unlikely pair’s partnership and the survival of their peoples will depend on their ability to unlearn a lifetime of antagonistic instincts toward one another…and rise above the sting of heartbreak.

Jason Aaron on TMNT
After years spent as a Marvel-exclusive writer, Jason Aaron is branching out to other publishers. He's already launched new Batman and Superman comics at DC, and now Aaron is taking over as the writer of the monthly TMNT comic from departing Sophie Campbell. Aaron will make his debut via a 10-page story in June's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Alpha #1. From there, he'll be at the helm of the monthly series when it relaunches with a new #1 issue in July.
"Launching a new TMNT comic series in the midst of the characters' 40th anniversary is clearly one of those dream jobs of all comic book dream jobs," Aaron said in a statement. "Especially for me, a kid who first fell in love with the Turtles all those years ago because of that original Mirage Studios series, buying those groundbreaking issues fresh off the rack, comics that kicked you in the face with their action-packed grit and gloriously raw attitude. I couldn't be more honored and thrilled to get to add to that esteemed legacy of comic book face-kicking, especially as part of an amazing IDW run that has expanded the world and timeline of the Turtles in such daring and exciting ways. In terms of what's to come, the kid in me wants you to know that you can expect some good old-fashioned grit, a sprinkle of dark, new attitude and all the bone-cracking action that four mutated ninja brothers can possibly handle."
While Aaron's series is meant to serve as a fresh jumping-on point for readers, IDW is clear to point out that the series isn't a reboot, but a continuation of the current TMNT continuity.
The first four issues of the new series will each spotlight a different Turtle, beginning with Raphael in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #1. The artists each picked their favorite Turtle. If there's a common thread in this new creative lineup, it'sthat everyone involved is a huge fan of the franchise dating back to the '80s.
"I almost couldn't believe it when these folks started saying yes," says IDW Editor-in-Chief Jamie S. Rich. "It's such a dream team of modern artists, folks responsible for some of my favorite comics of this century. All four of them were so enthusiastic to draw characters they love for the first time. It was cool to hear why they loved each of the individual turtles. Like Chris talked about the Donnie issue with the Jack Kirby homage, and Joëlle mentioned how she has always liked hotheads and fighters. It's comic book kismet!"
IDW's Co-Publisher Mark Doyle adds, "These are some of the best artists and storytellers in modern comics bringing their style and action to characters they love. As a fan, I'm over the moon!"
Raphael by Joëlle Jones
"For me working on TMNT was first a nostalgia hit, being an '80s kid I consumed it all!" Jones tells IGN. "But at its heart, and why I think it still resonates with people today, is that it’s a story about a family of outcasts brimming with personality and the conflicts that come out of it! Or maybe I just like the giant rat father figure, which might be something for me to unpack with a therapist at a later date!"
Michelangelo by Rafael Albuquerque
"I'm thrilled to be working with Jason on such a special project, with so many talented artists," Albuquerque says. "Being a child from the ‘80s, the TMNT cartoon has a special place in my heart, so having the chance to draw them for the first time kind of completes a full circle, full of nostalgia and excitement. I can't wait to reveal what we're working on!"
Leonardo by Cliff Chiang
"I still remember the thrill of reading those early black-and-white issues and how they ushered in a new wave of independent comics, and I'm incredibly excited to be a part of this next chapter for the Turtles," Chiang tells IGN. "Even better, Jason and I have been friends for a long time but haven't yet worked together, so I get to kill two Mousers with one sword."
Donatello by Chris Burnham
“I am SO excited to be working on the Turtles!" Burnham says. "I’ve been a TMNT fan since the black and white days - Fugitoid is one of the first comics I ever owned, and the original Donatello One-Issue Micro Series is one of my favorite comics of all time! I discovered so many amazing artists as a kid reading the Turtles - beyond Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird there’s Mark Bodé, Rick Veitch, Mark Martin, Richard Corben, Michael Zulli, Eric Talbot, Jim Lawson, Sophie Campbell… the list goes on and on and it’s a great honor to add my name to it!”
Look for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Alpha #1 to hit stores in June 2024, followed by the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #1 in July.

It’s the coolest ninja matchup you could have ever dreamed of, had you dared! The Heroes in a Half-Shell meet the host of the Nine-Tailed Fox in the crossover everyone will be talking about.
When teenage reporter April O’Neil has a clandestine meeting with Tsunade, the leader of the Hidden Leaf Village, it garners the attention of Naruto, Sasuke, Sakura, and Kakashi. They aren’t the only ones who are wondering what the two women were discussing, though. The sinister Foot Clan have their own interest in April’s visit, as they think she might hold the valuable information on mutation research being conducted by the scientist Baxter Stockman. With April caught between the forces of the Hidden Leaf Village and the Foot Clan, it can’t be long before the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles show up to lend her a hand!
Working with acclaimed manga publisher Viz Entertainment, IDW is pulling together two of the most popular comics in the world to bring you the four-issue comic book event of 2024!
“I’m stoked and humbled to get to work with the coolest talent in comics and manga to introduce the ninja created by my heroes in a massive mutagen and chakra-fueled adventure for fans everywhere," Goellner tells IGN. "What else can you call it but an honor? Let’s party."

After earning two prestigious Eisner nominations and being declared the “best indie comics success story” by Screen Rant, superstar creator Patrick Horvath’s delightfully twisted tale about an anthropomorphic serial killer bear is returning to comic shops for a new story that is guaranteed to shock readers.
BENEATH THE TREES WHERE NOBODY SEES: RITE OF SPRING #1 Cover A art by Patrick Horvath
Undoubtedly one of the most anticipated comics of 2025, BENEATH THE TREES WHERE NOBODY SEES: RITE OF SPRING #1 (of 6) takes place almost a decade after the stunning and blood-spattered events of the first hit series. Return to the seemingly idealistic suburban town of Woodbrook as Samantha, the bloodlusting brown bear, got away with her crimes and is now the town’s one and only serial killer. But times have changed, and Samantha will soon discover there are no secrets in the age of the internet… and those who lost loved ones to her dark temptations are still searching for justice. Plus, Samantha’s sinister origin story is revealed as the sequel revisits what happened after her very first kill.
“I’m supremely excited to return to the quaint town of Woodbrook to continue the story of our psychopath bear, Samantha Strong,” remarked Horvath. “I continue to be blown away by the response to the first book. In my wildest dreams I never thought it would have caught such a huge wave that spread out to other countries and languages. BENEATH THE TREES WHERE NOBODY SEES continues to be a huge gift to me, and I’m grateful for all of the immense support from IDW, the retailers, critics, and fans.”
BENEATH THE TREES WHERE NOBODY SEES: RITE OF SPRING #1 Cover B (Movie Homage Variant) art by Tony Fleecs
“Patrick Horvath is going to save comics – hell, he’s already on his way,” stated editor Jake Williams. “BENEATH THE TREES WHERE NOBODY SEES is the sort of shot in the arm that the industry prays for. A reminder of how good the medium can be. And here’s a secret: we always knew we were doing more. Patrick introduced you to his world in part one – now it’s time to plunge deeper into the darkness, expand out to the edges, and ultimately smash it all up. This one is darker, scarier, gorier, and maybe even a little bit cuter. Thank god for Patrick Horvath, we’re lucky he chose to make comics.”
BENEATH THE TREES WHERE NOBODY SEES: RITE OF SPRING #1 Cover C (Storybook Variant) art by Riley Rossmo
BENEATH THE TREES WHERE NOBODY SEES: RITE OF SPRING #1 (of 6) is on sale July 9, 2025 with a pre-order deadline of June 2, 2025. In addition to primary covers by visionary creator Horvath, the series will feature movie homage variant covers by acclaimed creator Tony Fleecs (Stray Dogs), the return of storybook variants, with incredible artist Riley Rossmo (The Moon is Following Us) on the debut variant and awe-inspiring artist Elizabeth Beals (Stranger Things and Dungeons & Dragons) on issues #2-6. Plus: a debut issue variant cover by industry icon Skottie Young (I Hate Fairyland).
For a first-look at some of the twisted interior art, visit The Hollywood Reporter. Pre-order now so you don’t miss out on the must-read sequel to one of 2024’s most talked about comic book series. To find a comic shop near you, check out comicshoplocator.com. The collected edition of BENEATH THE TREES WHERE NOBODY SEES, the first full story, is on sale now wherever graphic novels are sold.
