https://buzzpreview.buzzcomics.net/NYCC2019/nycc-logo.png

:beu:

https://buzzpreview.buzzcomics.net/NYCC2019/Screenshot_2019-10-03%20scaled%20hiddensociety%20jpg%20%28Image%20JPE G%2C%201199%20%C3%97%201844%20pixels%29%20-%20Redimensionn%C3%A9e%20%2834%25%29.png

Rafael Albuquerque (Eight, American Vampire) and Rafael Scavone (All-Star Batman, Hit-Girl In Rome), the team behind Neil Gaiman’s A Study in Emerald, are teaming up once more in Hidden Society. Written by Rafael Scavone and illustrated by Rafael Albuquerque, Hidden Society invites you to peek into a dark world behind the curtain.

Hidden from ordinary eyes, there is a world alongside our own full of deities, demons, and danger—where magic wins out over science and dark secrets lie in wait. Ulloo, the last wizard from the Hidden Society, enlists the aid of a blind girl and her demon, a young magician, and a cursed bounty hunter in order to stop a group of nihilist warlocks from waking the Society’s greatest nemesis: a primeval force that, unchecked, will scorch the planet bare of all life.

“After working on a book with the enigmatic 19th century London as the background, we thought that setting our first creator-owned book in the past was a good choice. New York in the 1970s shined like a good starting point for a story about magic, with all the decadence and violence around it. In Hidden Society, we created a place – with a Scorsese flair – filled with mysteries and magic, where complex characters have to team up and become the heroes those times needed.” — Rafael Scavone and Rafael Albuquerque

Hidden Society #1 (of four) goes on sale February 26, 2020, and is available for pre-order at your local comic shop.

DC COMICS

Film obligeant en février, DC lance une nouvelle mini-série en février sous le label Black Label intitulée Harley Quinn and The Birds of Prey avec aux commandes Jimmy Palmiotti et Amanda Coner qui dessinera les 4 épisodes!

https://buzzpreview.buzzcomics.net/NYCC2019/BLHQBoP01_CVR-edit-low_5d955765c722f8.29381932.jpg

At a press conference celebrating the debut of the upcoming Harley Quinn animated series exclusively on DC Universe, DC announced the return of one of their most celebrated comic book talent teams to the character they made a fan favorite. This February, writer/artist Amanda Conner and co-writer Jimmy Palmiotti reunite with the Clown Princess of Crime in Harley Quinn and The Birds of Prey.

Scheduled to launch in February, this four-issue miniseries is a sequel to Conner and Palmiotti’s bestselling fan-favorite run that started in 2013, including the cast of crazy characters from Harley’s Coney Island crew (Harley Quinn, Harley Quinn and Her Gang of Harleys). With Harley finally done with The Joker, she’s moving forward with her life (as only she can) until she’s beset by a rogue’s gallery of Gotham City’s worst villains, the target of a $10,000,000 bounty placed on her head by the Clown Prince of Crime. It will take the help of Black Canary, Cassandra Cain (a.k.a. Batgirl), Renee Montoya, and the Huntress to help Harley and get to the bottom of why The Joker has turned Gotham’s worst loose on her.

“Jimmy and I are so looking forward to this project,” said Conner. “I’m excited to be co-writing it, but it’s been some time since I’ve been able to draw interiors, so I’m doubly excited. Harley is a blast to write and draw; throw the Birds of Prey into the mix and it’s even more fun. And since this will be a mature readers title, we’ll do our best to get away with as many shenanigans as possible!”

Since taking on Harley Quinn in 2013 with DC’s New 52, Conner and Palmiotti have brought a new sense of style to the character while retaining the same sass, swagger, and attitude (and an even bigger hammer) that brought in a new legion of comic book fans and expanded her appeal to those who knew her only from her origins as The Joker’s girlfriend in Batman: The Animated Series.

“Amanda and I are super excited to be creating this new series for DC,” said Palmiotti. “We’ve been waiting for the right opportunity to let loose on a project with a no-holds-barred Harley story where we revisit Harley’s supporting cast and take her on an adventure back to Gotham. Teaming up with the Birds of Prey, Harley will turn all their worlds upside down—exactly how she likes it. Working with Amanda on the art and storytelling has been a blast so far and this book will be like nothing we have ever done before.“

“The combination of Amanda, Jimmy, and Harley Quinn has always resulted in great stories for Harley fans and this series will be no exception,” added DC SVP and Editor-in-Chief Bob Harras. “Their interpretation of Harley has made her a favorite of fans everywhere. Much like Batman: Last Knight on Earth or Batman/Catwoman, this miniseries is another example of great creative teams who are adding to their storytelling legacy with a memorable sequel.”

Harley Quinn and The Birds of Prey is a 32-page, four-issue miniseries debuting in comic book stores and participating online retailers February 2020 (exact date TBD) and shipping every other month thereafter; each issue will sell for $5.99. Each issue will also carry DC’s “Black Label” descriptor, identifying the content of this book as appropriate for readers ages 17 and older.

We're trying to organize our stories in a comprehensive way," he said. "This will be the basis of all DC Comics for the future. We don't know what the future is, but what's happening right now is a high level of planning... What we've done is identified the generations of DC Comics... we're reintroducting aspects of our history back into it... What you see right now is a story that will be consistent.

There's a lot of interesting implications that this timeline sets up... If some of these characters have been around for so long, what does that mean for today? I'll leave you with that,

Source Newsarama (https://www.newsarama.com/47264-layman-bradshaw-head-to-idw-s-bermuda.html)

https://buzzpreview.buzzcomics.net/NYCC2019/aHR0cDovL3d3dy5uZXdzYXJhbWEuY29tL2ltYWdlcy9pLzAwMC 8yNjYvMDUzL29yaWdpbmFsL2Jlcm11ZGFfaWR3LmpwZz8xNTcw MjE2NDkx.webp

"Bermuda is a story that’s been rattling around in my head for a while, and the type of book I’ve wanted to write for quite some time: high adventure with a jungle hero in a strange, savage land filled with all kinds of dangers and a world that’s both weird and wonderful," said Layman in a press release. "In addition to Chew, my absolute favorite books I’ve ever done have been with IDW – Scarface, Godzilla, and Mars Attacks – so I’m hoping lightning strikes a fourth time with Bermuda!"

According to IDW, "Bermuda is just your normal, everyday 16-year old girl – who just happens to live in an otherworldly dimension, swarming with dinosaurs and pirates! But that’s just the tip of the iceberg in this action-packed saga as we discover just who Bermuda is and how she came to be!"

"I’m excited to be working on Bermuda," added Bradshaw. "John is giving me thrilling stories full of adventure and suspense — so much so, I don’t know if I can do them justice, but I’m sure as hell going to try!"

"Nick Bradshaw is an insane talent whose work I’ve been in love with since the moment I’d laid eyes on it, so I’m thrilled to be teamed up with him," said Layman. "Plus, I’m getting a chance to reunite with my old boss and good friend, the Eisner-award accumulating editor extraordinaire, Scott Dunbier."

***For the record, I happen to think that Jason Aaron’s soon-to-conclude tenure writing the God of Thunder is one of the three best runs the character’s ever had (right behind Lee & Kirby’s and Walt Simonson’s). I’m terribly sorry to see him go. But if I was going to complain about anything in his run, it would have to be that it didn’t have enough Fandral and Hogun. (Aaron definitely did right by Volstagg, though.)

https://50yearoldcomics.wordpress.com/2019/08/03/thor-169-october-1969/?fbclid=IwAR2FtMoPhEcBd3xdFHtIgV2JARh1CWQeUvfu6f-9ZdHBKjzGEXyg7PjJX1g

***I was excited to see Donny Cates finally announced as the new writer on THOR. Since I was in town, I really wanted to show up at his panel and literally pass the torch by handing him a Mjolnir, but unfortunately the timing didn’t work out. Just know I’m super-excited he’s the guy who’s taking over, because Donny’s been killing it these last few years with some of the biggest, boldest ideas in comics and a fervent passion for everything he does. And believe me, his THOR is gonna be no different. So I feel like I’m leaving Asgard in some very capable hands. Even if he is from Texas. (Oh Odin-damned Hel, what have I done?)

Wilson held back from revealing too much about her plans, but did say that William Shakespeare - who was featured in Neil Gaiman's original Sandman run - would be a character in The Dreaming.

Hill says Plunge is “my chance to riff on one of the greatest horror films of all time, John Carpenter’s The Thing.” Like Carpenter’s masterpiece, Plunge concerns supernatural events in the frozen north. Back in the ’80s, a highly advanced research vessel went missing near the Arctic Circle, only to suddenly reappear 40 years later, now sending a distress signal. So a team of American researchers is sent to salvage the vessel, even as a wintry storm approaches. Hill teases what they find there: “There’s oil on board with unusual properties. At the center of this ring island, sunk in shallow waters, is what appears to be the ruins of a prehistoric civilization. Most upsetting of all is when the men who were on the research vessel emerge from the island’s caves. Their eyes have all been eaten away, they haven’t aged a day, and they’re capable of performing unfathomable mathematical feats. There’s something terribly wrong with them. And then the storm closes in.”
