https://buzzpreview.buzzcomics.net/2017-10/DarkHorse/NGASIE%20CVR%204x6%20SOL.png

A Study in Emerald features a brilliant (unnamed) detective and his faithful partner as they attempt to solve a horrific murder of cosmic proportions. The complex investigation takes the Baker Street investigators from the murderous slums of Whitechapel all the way to the Queen’s Palace as Gaiman weaves together distinctly British intrigue with trademark Lovecraftian flourishes.

This gorgeous new hardcover adaptation joins How to Talk to Girls at Parties by Gabriel Bá and Fábio Moon, Troll Bridge by Colleen Doran and Forbidden Brides of the Faceless Slaves in the Secret House of the Night of Dread Desire by Shane Oakley in Dark Horse’s modern Neil Gaiman Library, alongside new editions of Only the End of the World Again from P. Craig Russell and Troy Nixey and the just-announced Harlequin Valentine with John Bolton. Dark Horse also recently announced the second series in its ongoing adaptation of Gaiman’s American Gods, subtitled My Ainsel, from longtime Gaiman collaborator Russell and artist Scott Hampton. A Study in Emerald will hit shelves June 20, 2018, for $17.99, and we’ve got an exclusive first look at Albuquerque’s evocative cover below.

:woot:

Picking up after the world-altering finale from Buffy Season 11, the series’ synopsis indicates that the Scooby Gang have had an uncharacteristically laid back year away from fighting the forces of evil. However, when Xander and Dawn’s housewarming is gatecrashed by some familiar faces, Buffy and her crew will reach for their stakes once again. Forced to battle with a legion of demons, Wolfram Hart and a vampire from the future called Harth, Buffy will apparently find herself trapped in a time warp that could end the Slayers forever.

With alternate futures clearly playing a big part, The Reckoning will once again bring back future Slayer Fray, who first appeared in 2001’s self-titled spin-off. The Reckoning will see the return of Faith and Angel, as well as fan-favorite Illyria, though whether they help or hinder the cause remains to be seen.

SDCC ’18: Dark Horse to Release “Invisible Kingdom” by G. WIllow Wilson and Christian Ward

http://www.multiversitycomics.com/news/invisible-kingdom-wilson-ward/

Dark Horse have announced at The Hollywood Reporter that G. Willow Wilson (“Ms. Marvel”) and Christian Ward (“Black Bolt”) will launch “Invisible Kingdom” as part of its ‘Berger Books’ imprint. The comic will see Wilson write a creator-owned book for the first time since her Vertigo series “Air,” which Karen Berger edited, ended in 2010.

The book will follow two women, in a far off galaxy, one a fighter pilot and the other a religious acolyte. Together they will uncover a galactic conspiracy, connecting the galaxy’s most dominant religion and its largest corporation.

Wilson said of the project, “It’s a delight to be working with my mentor Karen Berger once again, especially on such an exciting project.” Christian Ward, a first-time collaborator with Wilson, added “I’m thrilled not only to be returning to a big creator-owned sci-fi but to be working with Karen Berger and G. Willow Wilson. Karen’s amazing career has helped to shape me as a creator, and with Willow, I don’t think there’s anyone today who writes with more warmth, humor or humanity. Nobody writes better, more relatable characters than her!” Ward continued his praise and said, “We’re already buzzing with excitement about all the weird and wonderful places that we’re taking this whole new assemble of instantly lovable characters. I hope you join us as we go somewhere amazing.”

“Invisible Kingdom” is set to launch in March 2019, and more information about the series will be revealed during the “Berger Books: The Second Wave” panel this Friday at San Diego Comic Con.

https://buzzpreview.buzzcomics.net/2019-02/Darkhorse/BerserkerUnboundCover.jpg

Prolific writer Jeff Lemire has been a fixture at Dark Horse Comics for several years now, but always under the ever-widening umbrella of his Black Hammer universe. Artist Mike Deodato Jr., on the other hand, has been a Marvel Comics stalwart for decades, producing major work for the publisher on everything from Thunderbolts and Original Sin to Infinity Wars and the upcoming Savage Avengers. Today, Paste can exclusively announce that former Thanos collaborators Deodato Jr. and Lemire will reunite this August to kick off Berserker Unbound, Lemire’s first non-Black Hammer work for Dark Horse, and Deodato’s first non-Marvel project after years as a company exclusive.

“I really wanted to draw a barbarian story and Jeff turned this dream of mine into a reality with this deeply emotional story of friendship seen through multiple dimensions,” Deodato Jr. said in a statement. “I am not exaggerating when I say this book has the most epic battles I’ve ever drawn! Berserker Unbound is a turning point in my career.”

Berserker Unbound opens as a relentless sword-swinging warrior emerges from a wormhole into a modern urban metropolis. The loincloth-clad fish-out-of-water must adapt to his surroundings while safeguarding this new world from a cruel wizard seeking to obliterate everything in his path. Along with Lemire and Deodato Jr., colorist Frank Martin and letterer Steve Wands will bring this adventure to sequential life.

“As soon as I had a chance to work with Mike Deodato on Thanos at Marvel I knew it would be the start of a beautiful partnership,” Lemire added. “We immediately started talking about the potential of teaming up for a creator-owned series. Mike is an incredible artist and, with Berserker Unbound, I tried to model a story to all of his many strengths. Berserker Unbound is many things. It has magic, action, and blood, but it also has heart. And it’s not at all what it first appears to be. We’re both very excited to be working together at Dark Horse, with Frank Martin and Steve Wands, to build the worlds of both Berserker and the world of Cobb, his unexpected companion.”

Berserker Unbound #1, the first of four issues, goes on sale August 7th, 2019, and is available for pre-order at your local comic shop. The first issue features a variant cover from Hellboy creator Mike Mignola, and Paste readers can take an exclusive first look at Deodato Jr. and Martin’s main cover below.

Jeff Lemire and Dean Ormston's Black Hammer universe is expanding with a new 6-issue series titled Skulldigger + Skeleton Boy.

"[T]his tale of dark tragedy finds Spiral City trapped in a vicious cycle of crime, corruption, and violence. With the heart of the city at stake, a vigilante rises in Skulldigger," reads Dark Horse's explanation of the debut issue. "However, when the nefarious Grimjim escapes from prison, will Skulldigger and his ward, Skeleton Boy, be enough to save Spiral City? Be sure to find out in Skulldigger + Skeleton Boy #1."

Teased as characters awhile back in The World of Black Hammer Encyclopedia, Skulldigger + Skeleton Boy will be written by Lemire, with art by Tonci Zonjic and lettering by Steve Wands.

“Skulldigger & Skeleton Boy is not only the next book in the Black Hammer Universe it's also the first book in the next phase of Black Hammer projects we will be announcing over the coming months," Lemire told Newsarama. "I’ve been incredibly lucky to work with amazing artists on Black Hammer and Tonci Zonjic is no exception. His storytelling and artwork in this series is going to blow people away."

"Jeff and Dean have a big world of ideas in the Black Hammer universe that continues to expand," added editor Daniel Chabon. "I think a lot of their fans are going to be really excited to see the new books we have cooking. Skulldigger is going to blow people’s minds - Zonjic’s art and storytelling is superb. You will not want to miss out on this!"

Jeff Lemire annonce plein de choses :

https://tinyletter.com/JeffLemire/letters/new-sweet-tooth-series-and-more

Lots of new Black Hammer stuff in the works. First up is a mini-series focusing on BARBALIEN written by the talented Tate Brombal and drawn by the incredible Gabriel Walta whom I did the sci-fi book SENTIENT with last year and colored by Jordie Bellaire.

COLONEL WEIRD: COSMAGOG written by me and drawn and painted by the amazing Tyler Crook (Harrow County)

Before starting on the new Sweet Tooth I finished another brand new series that I both wrote and drew. It's all done and will be published by Dark Horse in Fall 2021. Tom Muller will be helping me design the book, which I am excited about.

After these two books there will be a new Dean Ormston drawn Black Hammer series and also a Lucy Weber focused series. So lots of Black Hammer coming.

Certains aperçus dans le lien. ;)

Dark Horse Comics will officially spend its summer vacation just outside the streets of Spiral City — the bustling metropolis of Jeff Lemire and Dean Ormston’s Black Hammer mythos — in Black Hammer: Reborn.

Set two decades after Age of Doom, the new ongoing series finds Lucy Weber living a rather humdrum life after giving up the mantle of Black Hammer (a title once held by her late father, who scarified his own life to save the world from anti-God back in 1986).

Now married and living in the Spiral suburbs, Lucy is pretty much at rock bottom. Her marriage is falling apart, her job has reached a dead end, and for some unexplained reason, she hasn’t picked up the cosmic hammer in years.

As the character’s domestic life crumbles, the real reason behind her heroic retirement comes to light. The exact answer, which is still being kept under wraps, threatens to destroy Lucy’s family and the peace she tried so hard to find for herself.

Lemire (Gideon Falls, Sweet Tooth) is returning to write the book, with Caitlin Yarsky (Coyote, Bliss) taking over illustrative duties from Ormston.

"Black Hammer: Reborn is everything we have been building towards for the last several years, and it really is the culmination of everything we’ve done in Black Hammer to date,” Lemire said in a statement. “This series has it all. Black Hammer, Skulldigger, Doc Andromeda, and Sherlock Frankenstein all play major roles. Oh, and of course lots of Colonel Weird too.”

"I am super excited and a little bit terrified to see Caitlin's work on Black Hammer," added Ormston. "Excited because her work is so incredible, and terrified because her work is SO incredible."

Also praising Yarsky, Lemire continued: “Dean Ormston and I are very excited to welcome Caitlin to the Black Hammer universe and to the modern adventures of Lucy Weber. Caitlin's artwork is amazing — the way she does facial expressions and breathes life into the characters is really going to blow fans away.”

"Illustrating for the great Jeff Lemire and Dean Ormston is an absolute dream come true.” Yarsky said. “It has been such a joy to depict Black Hammer's emotionally complex characters, relationships, and beautifully surreal settings. I'm thrilled and honored to join this legendary team of storytellers. In fact, I'm still pinching myself.”

Dave Stewart (Hellboy, Gideon Falls) is coloring the book, with Nate Piekos on lettering. Malachi Ward (Prophet, Island) and Matt Sheean (Prophet, Island) will provide guest artwork for Issues #5-8. Black Hammer: Reborn #1 goes on sale Friday, July 23.

We Have Demons #1 (of 3) written by Scott Snyder with art by co-creator Greg Capullo and Jonathan Glapion with colors by Dave McCaig and letters by Tom Napolitano.

In practically every folklore throughout history, there’s a struggle between angels and demons–beings of goodness and light and monstrous beings of darkness. But what if this struggle, this war for the soul of humanity, wasn’t rooted in the mystical or supernatural, but in science?

Lam was named after the first female angel, “Lamassu.” Lam never really understood her father’s devotion to their small-town Unitarian church. And when he dies under mysterious circumstances, she starts to question everything she thought she knew.

We Have Demons is full throttle entertainment by two comic book megastars, featuring action, conspiracies, secret organizations, monsters, mayhem, and a climactic war of good and evil with no less than the fate of the world hanging in the balance.

October 12, 2021

Clear #1 (of 6) by Scott Snyder with art by co-creator Francis Manapul and letters by Andworld Design.

Welcome to the future, a world where people can connect to the internet neurologically and mediate the real world through the lenses of their eyes, transforming reality. Everything can be skinned to fit a preference from steampunk to old fashioned Hollywood glamour. If you can name it, you can live it. You choose how you see the world and no one else knows what you’re seeing.

San Francisco, private detective Sam Dunes is working a case when he’s approached by his former police partner, who informs him of his ex-wife’s alleged suicide. But nothing about this adds up. And when he receives a gift in the mail, Dunes finds himself pulled into a wild and twisting mystery that stretches from the city’s deadly underworld to the even deadlier heights of the city’s wealthy and powerful elite.

October 19, 2021

Night of the Ghoul #1 (of 6) written by Scott Snyder with art by co-creator Francesco Francavilla and letters by Andworld Design.

It was said to be the greatest horror movie in cinematic history. Shot in 1936, “Night of the Ghoul” by writer/director T.F. Merritt was meant to sit beside “Frankenstein” and “Dracula” as an instant classic… But the legendary film never made it to the silver screen. Just before editing was finished, a mysterious studio fire destroyed the footage and killed the cast and crew during their celebratory wrap-party. Rumors of the doomed film’s greatness persist to this day, but no footage from it was ever recovered…until now.

Forest Inman is a horror film obsessive who digitizes old films for the famed Aurora movie studio. When he stumbles across a seemingly forgotten canister of footage, his discovery sends him on a dark odyssey to the California desert, where he’s warned by a mysterious old man that the film’s ghoul is far more than a work of fiction.

Night of The Ghoul is a dazzling work of contemporary horror, intercutting between the present-day narrative and the story of the lost film (drawn by Francavilla in stunning black and white).

In July, comiXology Originals announced that Scott Snyder of Best Jackett Press will release eight new titles for the exclusive digital comics line collaborating with some of the biggest artists in comics, including Rafael Albuquerque, Greg Capullo, Francesco Francavilla, Jamal Igle, Jock, Tula Lotay, Francis Manapul, and Dan Panosian with veteran comics editor Will Dennis overseeing the books. More release dates will be announced soon.

Since debuting in 2017, comiXology Originals has continued to feature an impressive list of exclusive content for all types of fans, including the Eisner Award winning titles Afterlift (Zdarsky/Loo) and Harvey Kurtzman’s Marley’s Ghost (O’Neil, Kendall, & Wheeler), the Eisner Award nominated titles The Stone King (McDonald/Crook) and Promethee 13:13 (Diggle, Martinbrough & Jock), and most recently, the Harvey Award nominated title Adora and the Distance (Bernardin/Kristantina).

https://buzzpreview.buzzcomics.net/2022-03/DarkHorse/confabulation-scaled.jpg

Presented alphabetically, with informally written anecdotes that can be read from cover-to-cover or simply dipped into, Gibbons reveals unseen comics’ pitches, life as the first Comics Laureate, adventures in advertising and album cover design, and his journey from fanzine artist to infiltrating DC Comics in the 1970s. This book covers everything from his work on Doctor Who and meeting Tom Baker to his induction into the Eisner Hall of Fame. Gibbons also discusses, for the first time anywhere, the end of his relationship with fellow Watchmen co-creator Alan Moore. Packed with over 300 iconic, rarely seen, and unpublished art pieces and photographs, Confabulation: An Anecdotal Autobiography not only entertains, but peels back the layers of a fascinating career in comics.

This summer, acclaimed artist Gabriel Hernández Walta (The Vision) is illustrating Hellboy and the B.P.R.D.: Old Man Whittier, an all-new terrifying one-shot written by legendary Hellboy creator Mike Mignola. This one-shot marks the very first Hellboy story to be illustrated by Walta, and continues a story that originally began in Mignola’s classic short story Hellboy: The Whittier Legacy.

In Hellboy and the B.P.R.D.: Old Man Whittier, trouble runs in the family. When Catherine Whittier learns she’s inherited the house she grew up in, she knows better than to return home alone. And who better to escort her than Hellboy? After all, with a house with a history like this, “plot” can mean more than just a family graveyard.

“Drawing this Hellboy one-shot has been a dream come true,” said Walta. “I’ve been a fan of Mike’s work for more than thirty years, and having the chance to work with him and the Hellboy team was simply awesome. I also had the chance to draw an old house with cobwebs, ghosts, snakes, and a charismatic red demon wearing a trench coat…what more could I ask for?”

“Sometimes my brain won’t let a story die,” said Mignola. “I first introduced the Whittier family back in 2010, but their story wasn’t over, especially when there was a chance to collaborate with the amazing artist Gabriel Hernández Walta.”

Hellboy and the B.P.R.D.: Old Man Whittier is written by Mignola, illustrated by Walta, and lettered by Clem Robins, with a main cover by Walta and a variant cover by Mignola and the award-winning colorist Dave Stewart. The one-shot will be published by Dark Horse Comics on June 22, 2022. The original story Hellboy: The Whittier Legacy is currently in print in Hellboy: The Complete Short Stories Volume 2. The story is also collected in Hellboy Library Edition Volume 6 and Hellboy Volume 11: The Bride of Hell and Others.

James Tynion's Tiny Onion Substack comics come to print through Dark Horse

Writer James Tynion IV will bring several comic stories he created for his Substack newsletter to print through Dark Horse Comics, with new print-first stories to follow down the road, announced through Tynion's newsletter Empire of the Tiny Onion and The Hollywood Reporter (opens in new tab).

Tynion's Tiny Onion Studios (the name given to his line of Substack comments) will come to Dark Horse as its own line, curated by Tynion himself. The first two titles planned for release through Dark Horse will be physical releases of comics previously published on Tynion's Substack.

First up is Blue Book, created by Tynion alongside artist Michael Avon Oeming and letterer Aditya Bidikar, which releases starting in February. Blue Book recounts famous (or infamous?) tales of alien encounters, starting with the story of the supposed abduction of married couple Betty and Barney Hill.

Blue Book will also feature a series of 'True Weird' backup tales, starting with the story 'Coney Island' by Tynion and artist Klaus Janson.

Then there's The Oddly Pedestrian Life of Christopher Chaos, coming in June 2023, created by Tynion and written by Tate Brombal, with art by Isaac Goodhart, colors by Kurt Michael Russell, and letters by Aditya Bidikar. The Oddly Pedestrian Life of Christopher Chaos stars the eponymous Christopher Chaos, a teen mad scientist who gets wrapped up with a monster-hunting cult.

Following the release of Blue Book and The Oddly Pedestrian Life of Christopher Chaos, Tiny Onion will release new, print-first material through Dark Horse, though no new titles have been announced yet.

"Blue Book and Christopher Chaos are just the beginning. There's a whole universe of characters and concepts around the Christopher Chaos title I'm hoping that Tate, Isaac and I get to explore in our time there," Tynion tells THR.

Dark Horse Comics presents the finale of legendary writer and storyteller Mark Millar’s (Civil War, Kingsman) powerful Jupiter’s Legacy saga. Joined by world-renowned artist Tommy Lee Edwards (Jupiter’s Legacy Requiem, Mother Panic) and letterer John Workman (Sonic the Hedgehog, Doom Patrol), Jupiter’s Legacy: Finale is the epic five-part finale of Mark Millar and Frank Quitely’s superhero story. Covers for issue #1 include main cover art from Tommy Lee Edwards and variants by Frank Quitely (Jupiter’s Circle, New X-Men), Julian Totino Tedesco (Sir Edward Grey, Witchfinder: The Mysteries of Unland, The Walking Dead Deluxe), and Skottie Young (Usagi Yojimbo: Ice and Snow, Black Hammer: Age of Doom).

In the final volume of Jupiter’s Legacy:

The lineage of America’s superheroes is on the brink. They’ve grappled with internal scandals, personal demons, and the constant threat of raising children in a world teetering on the edge of destruction. The struggle to understand the origins of their powers and the looming threat of heroes and villains to humanity has been a constant battle. Now, the superheroes find themselves trapped and murdered on an alien world, while the enemies of Earth, who have long envied our planet, seize the opportunity to launch their invasion.

“We started this book in 2012,” said Millar. “When Barack Obama was still in his first term and now we’re finally finishing it, twelve years older and hopefully wiser. It’s been the longest story I’ve written in my career and an honour to work with some of the greatest artists in the modern industry. I had this plotted on my board a couple of years before and it’s so satisfying to see it all come together at last. I’m so proud of this book and want to thank everyone for their patience. I hope you enjoy it as much as we enjoyed making it. What other book out there can promise: The secret of the universe contained within?”

Read the conclusion of Millar’s masterpiece, Jupiter’s Legacy: Finale #1 (of 5), when it arrives on October 16, 2024. Pre-order at your local comic shop for $4.99.

Five years (and a few abandoned ideas) later, the seeds planted at that dinner are now a reality. The duo is teaming for FML, an eight-issue comic from Dark Horse due out in November.

For DeConnick, the book is deeply personal, as her teenage son and daughter helped inspire the surreal coming-of-age series centering on the relationship between a mother and her son.

Issue No. 1 is narrated by Riley, a heavy metal kid who uses his ballpoint pen and notepad to process the horrors of modern high school life — from active shooter drills to social anxiety. Issue No. 2 is told from the perspective of Riley’s mother, an aging punk cartoonist with a true-crime obsession. Together, the two narratives paint a picture of a mother and son trying to survive a Portland plagued by wildfires and the coronavirus pandemic. Against that backdrop, there’s a murder mystery — and even the transformation of a character into a monster.

As DeConnick notes, her son is growing up in a moment in which conversations around masculinity often have the word “toxic” used in association. That has DeConnick grappling with how to help guide her son as he heads toward adulthood, and it’s a theme she poured into the book.

“I want my kids to be able to wrap their brains around the idea that there have been ways that a toxic framing of masculinity has been behind a lot of bad behavior,” DeConnick tells The Hollywood Reporter. “It doesn’t mean that it’s a bad thing to be a man.”

Though the mom, brother and sister characters in FML have similarities to the author and her children, the family has discussed how a character is not the person who inspired it.

“It’s just a starting place of an idea,” says DeConnick, who adds her kids have embraced being involved in the book. “My aim is not to embarrass you. Even if we all agree that that character is not you, I still don’t want you to be made uncomfortable by anything.”

DeConnick and López are joined by colorist Cris Peter and letterer Clayton Cowles, both of whom worked with DeConnick on Bitch Planet, her most recent creator owned title, which ran from 2014-17.

The scribe notes that the comic book industry has changed quite a bit in the decade since she launched Bitch Planet. It’s harder than ever to draw attention to projects, so she is experimenting with new ways to engage readers. She put Easter eggs into her newsletter, including one that directed people to a website for a fictional band featured in FML. A savvy reader even messaged the band, asking to book them for a wedding. DeConnick is also exploring appearances on true-crime podcasts, given the book’s connection to the genre.

As for getting to once again work with López, DeConnick notes that he seemingly draws faster than she writes, and he is not afraid to kill his darlings. “He doesn’t mind tossing things out,” says DeConnick of the artist, who is more than willing to discard pages if better ideas come along.

It's a busy few months for Hellboy fans, with a new (and Mike Mignola approved) movie on the way. Now, Newsarama can exclusively reveal that a two-issue sequel to one of the best Hellboy comics of recent years is also incoming.

Giant Robot Hellboy Returns is the follow up to last year's limited series, which saw Big Red become a Big Mech. Giant Robot Hellboy Returns will once again by written by Mike Mignola himself and drawn by Duncan Fegredo, colorist Dave Stewart, and letterer Clem Robins. Fegredo will also be handling the series' main covers. A variant cover by Our Bones Dust artist Ben Stenbeck (pictured in the gallery below) will be available for #1, with #2 receiving a variant from James Harren.

"What started as a funny drawing – A joke – has taken on a life of its own," said Mignola in a statement about the new comic. "And watching Duncan breathe life into this thing is pure joy."

Dark Horse's official synopsis for the first issue gives us a hint of the story – and it sounds like Hellboy will be embarking on an undersea odyssey in the new comic:

"After Hellboy is kidnapped and connected to a massive mecha-Hellboy for a mission on a mysterious, faraway island, Giant Robot Hellboy disappears. Scientists comb the sea looking for him but find more than they bargained for when an interdimensional portal threatens to pull them in – or let monsters of unknown origin out."

Giant Robot Hellboy Returns #1 will be published by Dark Horse Comics sometime in 2025.

Writer Mark Millar’s next Dark Horse series will be a survival adventure story set in the one place vampires can’t go. Vatican City, a three-issue series by Millar and artist Per Berg, is set during a vampire apocalypse that has wiped out all of humanity, except for about 2,000 tourists and Vatican staffers who are safe in a place filled with vampire-repelling holy water, relics, and crosses. While the humans struggle inside the city, the vampires wait patiently outside, and being undead, they have plenty of time. The first issue will go on sale on April 9, 2025, with an MSRP of $5.99 and a main cover by Berg, with variants by John McCrea and John Kalisz.

"I’ve had this idea for years, Assault on Precinct 13 with vampires, tourists and staff safe behind the holy relics in The Vatican while the rest of the world outside has been taken down by the forces of darkness,” Millar said in a statement accompanying the announcement. “I wrote it into The Magic Order as a little subplot in volume 3, but really wanted to flesh it out and tell the whole story. Vatican City is my big chance.”

“The Umbrella Academy” is coming back this June with a new story told in its original comic-book medium from creators Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá and Dark Horse Comics.

Per the description for “The Umbrella Academy: Plan B,” “After the mass release of The City’s greatest foes and the chaos that followed in Hotel Oblivion, the Umbrella Academy faces their most fearsome challenge to date–their other brothers and sisters. Known only as The Sparrows, they share a different connection to Sir Reginald Hargreeves and Mom. No one knows how to hurt each other more than family, and this powerful, ruthless brood will spare no brutality in favor of their sole objective—control and the obedient glare that comes with it.”

The new comic is co-written by Way and Bá (who also illustrates), colored by Dave Stewart and lettered by Nate Piekos.

It will be released June 11 and is currently available for preorder for $4.99.

Dark Horse says Issue #1 will feature six variant covers illustrated by artists including Fabio Moon, Claire Roe, Mike del Mundo, Duncan Fegredo, David Aja and Jill Thompson.

“Telling this story with Gabriel would become, as it is today, such a special part of my life,” Way told Variety about continuing “The Umbrella Academy” comics. “This is not only because we would evolve as artists— but because we had the opportunity to grow up over a pretty crazy adventure together. Each chapter of this story seems to form and coalesce into its own organism— sometimes it’s a screaming baby on a subway car, other times a great big metal bird falling from the sky — and because of this, I am just as excited for ‘Plan B’ as I was when we went on this trip together with ‘Apocalypse Suite.'”

Netflix’s TV series adaptation of Way and Bá’s “The Umbrella Academy” comics ended its four season run last August. During that time, the comics weren’t regularly coming out with new issues.

“Comics are our passion and it’s where we have complete freedom to tell the story the best way we can,” Bá told Variety. “We were in the middle of making ‘Hotel Oblivion’ when the whole Netflix thing started, which injected us with a new boost of energy to keep on telling our story, given the huge interest that the show brought to the original comics. We never actually stopped working on the new material, but the pandemics were a blow we were not expecting. It took us some time to get back on our feet and work on the new scripts. We really love this comic and it helped us get through this.”

In regards to how storylines from the Netflix adaptation could come into play in the “Plan B” comic, which focuses on The Sparrows, which were featured in the TV series, Bá said: “Just as it happened with every season of the show, they took elements from our original story and worked it out into telling it their way. They used ideas we haven’t done yet, but differently than we originally intended for the comics. And that’s the fun of the show, in my opinion. It began very similar, but it grew to become a completely different thing, even though it has some elements that are the same. So we might see things in the comics that have appeared on the show, like the Sparrows, but the reader will soon be reminded what makes our comics so unique and why we love this medium so much.”

The year is 2094, and men rule the world. So what has changed in seventy years, you ask? Following the ten-year Sildenafil wars of 2053, Earth has become a barren wasteland. Factions of surviving men led by "Quest Ragnor, King of Males" have taken over the remnants of cities and towns across the globe, capturing and enslaving all women... Well, all women except for three super bimbos with unparalleled bloodlust and an unquenchable thirst for violence: Baby, Belladonna, and Babette. Unwilling to bend to the whims and desires of the buffoons in charge, too slippery to be caught, and too sexy for chains, these three bangin' babes are at the top of Quest Ragnor's most wanted list. Unfortunately for him, they couldn't care less!

Here’s the most unexpected crossover event of the week — and maybe the year: Archie Comics and Dark Horse Comics are teaming up for Archie Vs. Minor Threats, a four-issue series that will send the teens of Riverdale on a collision course with Twilight City.

The news was revealed on Archie’s BlueSky account, which posted the following:

The teens of Riverdale cross paths with the criminals of Twilight City…and no one will ever be the same! From the creative team of writers Patton Oswalt, Timmy Heague and Jordan Blum comes Archie vs. Minor Threats. The debut of this four-issue miniseries hits stores on August 6th!

That’s sort of the long and the short of it (at least until either publisher shoots out a press release about this, in which case we’ll update our article). At the moment, it’s most interesting in terms of Archie’s expanding crossovers — they just announced a crossover with Kevin Smith’s Jay and Silent Bob — and that the Minor Threats universe is rapidly growing past miniseries and spinoffs to invade other comic book universes.

Hellboy creator Mike Mignola is teaming up with artist Giuseppe Manunta (Artemis, Sherlock Holmes and the mystery of Haut-Koenigsbourg) in his English-language debut for a brand new Hellboy one-shot. Written by Mignola, drawn and colored by Manunta, and lettered by Clem Robins, Hellboy and the B.P.R.D.: Professor Harvey is Gone One-Shotdelves into Hellboy’s past as the paranormal investigator takes up the search for a missing antiquities professor.

“I’m a big fan of Giuseppe’s work so I was thrilled when he told me he wanted to do a Hellboy story—The only problem was that I had sort of (finally) run out of Hellboy stories,” says Mike Mignola. ”My head is so much in my new LANDS UNKNOWN series now that for a while I was really drawing a blank. Then I remembered a plot I had given to Chris Golden a while back. He wrote it up as a Hellboy story for Weird Tales magazine (THE CITY IN THE SEA—Weird Tales issue 367) but that was an unillustrated prose story and there were (I thought) some terrific visuals in that story so I thought Giuseppe would be a terrific artist to put those on paper. So I reworked that original story and idea and turned it over to Giuseppe to work his magic.”

When a paranoid antiquities professor goes missing, Hellboy and the Bureau of Paranormal Research and Defense leap into action, but their search takes a dangerous turn as whoever was after the professor sets their sights on Hellboy. This thrilling one-shot features all of the charm and excitement of a classic Hellboy adventure and introduces audiences to Manunta’s breathtaking, painterly artwork.

Happy Halloweeniversary! Dark Horse Comics and award-winning cartoonist Dan Brereton (Giantkiller, The Psycho, The Last Battle) celebrate 31 spooky years of Brereton’s hand-painted supernatural-noir comic series with Nocturnals: The Sinister Path. This miniseries is written and illustrated by Brereton and lettered by Lois Buhalis (X-Men, Spawn, Blacksad), and will be the first time Nocturnals: The Sinister Path will be available in single issues, as it was previously published in graphic novel format in 2017 by Big Wow Art. The first issue will include two pages of character introductions, a new cover by Brereton, and a variant cover by Sean Gordon Murphy, with every issue also featuring new pinups and two brand-new story pages.

About Nocturnals: The Sinister Path:

A war is being fought for the soul of Pacific City. It’s a war fought by monsters, both human and supernatural. But luckily, some of the monsters are on our side. The Nocturnals—a band of misfit vigilantes led by Doc Horror, his supernaturally-gifted daughter Evening (aka Halloween Girl), and an armed revenant known as the Gunwitch—are all that stand against the eldritch criminal underworld of Pacific City.

The death of the mysterious Judge Hemlock opens a macabre power vacuum in the eldritch underworld. But when the Nocturnals investigate the occult-enshrouded Hemlock house, what they find will lead them down a twisted and deadly sinister path.

“Someone recently described Nocturnals as being like a really good dream,” said Brereton. “That’s pretty close to how I feel about it—a good dream you’re completely immersed in, you don’t want it to end—and when you wake up you want back in. Being able to go back again and again over the last three decades is the best feeling.”

Celebrate Halloween early this year when Nocturnals: The Sinister Path #1 (of 4) releases in stores on September 3, 2025. It is now available to preorder from your local comic shop for $4.99.

If you enjoy Dan’s work and Nocturnals, check out Nocturnals 31, a new art book, currently available on Kickstarter!

The Adventures of Lumen N. :

https://buzzpreview.buzzcomics.net/2025-05/DarkHorse/jamesrobinson.jpg

Dark Horse Comics presents The Adventures of Lumen N., a new steampunk adventure set at the turn of the 20th century written by James Robinson (Starman, Los Monstruos), penciled by Phil Hester (G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero, The Wretch), inked by Marc Deering (Black Panther, Hunt.Kill.Repeat) colored by Bill Crabtree, and lettered by Jim Campbell. Issue #1 will be available in September 2025 and will feature main cover art by Hester and variant covers by Mark Buckingham, Duncan Fegredo, Max Fiumara, and Dan Brereton.

About The Adventures of Lumen N.:

The year is 1901 and our heroine Lumen is a precocious 13-year-old with many questions about her life. Why has her father been gone for years? Why must she learn so many languages and fighting techniques and what’s with all the lessons in seafaring? Then an attack on her home by a horde of steampunk assassins delivers the first glimmer of an answer, when Lumen’s savior reveals himself as her grandfather, the legendary Captain Nemo, one of the greatest characters in Victorian science-fiction literature. A brand-new world of steampunk adventure and thrills is about to open up for Lumen as she connects with the grandfather she never knew while together they take on a cabal of evil masterminds, intent on world domination.

“I am utterly thrilled to join forces with Phil, Marc and Bill in bringing The Adventures of Lumen N. to life,” said Robinson. “It’s an idea I’ve had for a long time, and I’m grateful for the talents of these wonderful creators in helping me bring her to life. Lumen’s story is a rollercoaster of steam-punk excitement as she evolves from a young, slightly unsure girl into a two-fisted adventuress, and I know you’ll enjoy the ride.”

Hester added, “I’ve been wanting to work with James for what seems like a lifetime, especially on a book like Lumen N. Not since my time working on Batman: The Animated Series have I contributed to a project that, while clearly all-ages, is well-made enough to appeal to even the most sophisticated audience. James, Marc, Bill & Jim are all at the top of their games, brining a book unlike any other to the market. Fun, scary, smart, light, thrilling, historical, and witty, each page turn plunges you into a different genre and mood. Lumen N is a book meant to be shared, and I hope you will let us share it with you.”

And Deering said, “I am incredibly lucky to be teamed with 3 of comics greatest, James, Phil and Bill, on such an awesome book. I’ve been having the time of my life working on Lumen N. I can’t wait to do more.”

The Adventures of Lumen N. #1 (of 4) releases in stores on September 3, 2025. It is now available to pre-order from your local comic shop for $4.99.
